If you have dry skin, you know that sometimes foundation can just accentuate the dry patches. Here are some tips on a nice, easy makeup routine for your skin type.

Before putting any makeup on, start with a completely clean slate. Wash with a gentle cleanser, then use a powerful moisturizer to combat any dryness. For the eye area, use a special eye cream to make dark circles and bags less noticeable. Pat a small amount between the ring fingers and then lightly apply around the eyes, and up over the brow line. Don't apply directly on the eyelids. For the final prep step, use a makeup primer; it will temporarily fill in and smooth imperfections in the skin, which will help your foundation look more even.

Concealer: Use to hide under-eye circles and broken blood vessels, blemishes and scars. Opt for a creamy consistency, and go one shade lighter than your >skin tone. Use a concealer brush made from synthetic materials for the most even application.

Foundation: Look for a hydrating or moisturizing foundation with a thicker, creamier texture. If you have a fairly even complexion, look for a tinted-moisturizer instead of a traditional formula.

Powder: If your skin is very dry, skip the powder. Not only will it further dry out your skin, but it can cause the skin to look dull and tired, rather than fresh and matte. Plus, it can settle into lines and wrinkles. If your skin is dry to normal, you can still use a powder; just use one that contains hydrating ingredients.

Eye makeup: Dry skin and wrinkles often go together, especially around the eyes. Unfortunately, powder eye shadows, which can settle into lines, tend to accentuate wrinkles, as do shimmery and frosted shadows. Your best bet is cream eye shadow. Go for shades that make eyes appear wider and more open such as off-white, pearl or bone. For added depth, add some contrast with mocha brown, chocolate, navy, plum or forest green.

Blush: When blush is absorbed into dry skin, it leaves a blotchy-looking color on the surface. So avoid regular powder blushes, and instead go for a bulsh-stain that will last all day. Cream blush is another good option.

Lipstick: If lips are dry and chapped, there is no way your lipstick will look even. Get your lips into shape by exfoliating first. Then, use a moisturizing lip balm at least twice a day. When applying your lip color, trace lips with a lip pencil in the same color as your lipstick. Then, use the pencil to color in lips. This will keep lipstick inplace and give it longer wear. Make sure to choose a moisturizing lipstick.
