Thanks to everyone who offered support and condolences over the past 2 days. I can't express enough how much that means to me. Those of us who have bothered grieving are doing fairly well, and life is almost back to normal. I just didn't go to work today, because there was no weekly branch meeting and no scheduled appointments...not to mention, most of our clients have probably left town because of the storms. It's still a little difficult going into the garage and seeing an empty cage, especially knowing that Bunny isn't hopping around inside. :(
To update since the last entry: Turns out, Philip couldn't use my shoebox to bury Bunny, since he'd become so stiff in such a short amount of time. He did find an adequate box, though (I guess he had to :-p), and Bunny fit in perfectly. Philip also buried him with 3 treats, since that's how many Philip would feed him in one day. No one has even touched the cage yet, not even to close it or clean it. Before leaving for work yesterday morning, I made sure to visit the gravesite, since I'd normally say hi to Bunny while getting to my car. Since I wasn't able to stick around for most of the post mortem duties, I had to look for a patch of dirt that looked like someone might have dug it up to bury a small animal. It's in a nice corner of the backyard, close to Esther's room. As for the cage, no one's even touched it yet, not even to close it or clean it. Yeah, we're gonna have to do that one of these days...preferrably when it isn't raining.
I do wonder what dealing with Bunny would have been like if we had to evacuate from Hanna and Ike (we're staying because Hanna doesn't seem all that bad, and God protected this house from the 4th most destructive hurricane in history (I'm saying that, because I'd rather not give the house credit, lest it get destroyed by future storms)). Obviously, we couldn't have left him with a bunnysitter, since they'd all be leaving too. It's nice that we haven't had any evacuation-worthy storms come by Charleston while Bunny had been around...well, at least not any that I can really recall. And no one ever said anything about evacuation while I was at school.
Honestly, I really want another rabbit. But the problem here is that there wouldn't be any place in the house to put it except the garage...and I don't think any of us would prefer doing that. Personally, I hated seeing Bunny in there. But it was either that, or keeping him in a cage that was way too small for him but still fit in the house. Also, I really doubt my parents are so keen on the idea. But to have a tiny baby bunny in the house again.... ^_____^
This doesn't have much to do with the rest of the entry, but ever since I deleted Josh's comment nearly a month ago, I get SO NERVOUS when I clear notifications from my inbox now. I mean, I'm not afraid of anyone getting offended and going all drama-queen on me, if that's what anyone is thinking. I just REALLY hate erasing comments, especially when others have taken the time and effort to write responses. |
