Seriously, I cannot get anywhere on LJ or YouTube. I attribute this to David. There is simply no other explanation. The same happened to me yesterday afternoon when I came home and read the news. I couldn't get anywhere else to watch the actual videos or read the BBC articles...all screeched to a halt. I realize that LJ was down for maintenance, but this was before that. But more on that later...

First of all, I've had the flu. Ugh...I've been back at work for two days now, but even last night I just felt a bit blah. I got a stupid flu shot on Wednesday at my doctor's. Coincidence, I suppose. By Sunday I was unable to keep anything down and couldn't do more than lay in a fetal position on my bed. So not the best start to my week. I missed Monday and Tuesday of work and when I went back it turns out that one of my co-workers had exactly the same thing at exactly the same time. So apparently it wasn't the flu shot that gave it to me. Still, I won't be standing in line to get another one anytime soon.

And now...my review of the Sarah Jane Adventures. It was...uh...yeah, what was that exactly. The ancient lights...sure, right...no. I thought the first part of the episode was much better than the last. I adored Luke's little angsting bit about not having a birthday and being different from the other kids. Our little Doctor. He really is so like him. And I loved how they actually mentioned the Doctor in this episode. Not only mentioned him, but delved a bit into Sarah Jane's time with him. We even got a flashback. I would love it if he would actually show up a bit later in the series. If only to sort out why the new characters name is Rani. That ought to give the Doctor a bit of a shock. Rani is growing on me a bit. She demonstrated the ability to walk and talk at the same time in these episodes. And I do love her mom, especially her insistance on calling Sarah Jane "Sarah" and how it appears to really annoy our main character.

And now for the biggie. He's done it...announced it on live television. He's leaving Doctor Who. We all knew this time would come. Admittedly, we all assumed it would be at the end of the 2009 specials. But reports had been coming in lately hinting at his doing the 5th series. Now, looking back on it, I think Tennant's probably known for a while that he wasn't going to be continuing in the role and the rumors we've been hearing have just been tabloid fodder. But I'm sure it was also true that the BBC was trying to tempt him back for one more year with obscene amounts of money. Kudos to him for standing his ground. I loved his interview afterwards. I think he really explained himself well. And who can really fault him for wanting to have a life and move on. The way he put it, "If I don't take a deep breathe and move on now then I never will," really hits at the heart of most of our dilemmas in life. I realize it's hard for actors with typecasting and such and he's trying to make a career move towards more serious film roles and I know he's also very aware of his age. Really, 37 is not old. But I'm sure he feels that his youth's running out he's got to move fast.

He did look a bit nervous and his voice actually broke, bless him. And yes, you could tell that RTD and Miss Tate knew what David what was going on, it was very obvious. I love how they allowed him to announce it...not the powers that be at the BBC. It makes it much more personal, more meaningful to the fans who love him and the Tenth Doctor. And now it will not be a year of constant wondering and cliff-hangers such as we had with Stolen Earth. We'll just get to watch the specials and enjoy our final farewell to one of the best Doctors in Who's history. He'll always be "my Doctor." And I completely understand that it's time for him to move on and pursue other interests. We can't have him handcuffed to the TARDIS console for eternity.

And now, knowing this, I must say I'm starting to wonder if perhaps David Morrissey will be the next Doctor. RTD has promised an unexpected twist at the end of the Christmas special. Now that this news is out it would be just like him to do something like that. But once again we'll just wait and see.

And now, so you can all join me in watching a very handsome man hand announce his exit from the defining role of his career, I present to you the video from the NTA's and his interview afterwards...courtesy of YouTube.
