1. We've chatted about this before, but I'll ask again, simply because I have mild doggy ADD. Both you and Rocket lead highly sexual lives and there's lots of outside play with others. I can assume you have boundries, rules and trust worked out well, as I've never seen either of you bitch on LJ about the other being bad. In my own relationship, giving my Fox the freedom he wants and deserves is making me freak and my fur fall out. Can you expand on how you make this run so well?
Communication. Our rules are pretty simple: Total honesty. We let each other know when we're playing with someone else. The restrictions on play are "always use condoms." I trust him. We both are happy with our situation: emotional, financial, sexual. We get the support we need, and he doesn't get too upset when I get neurotic. :)
We started off by meeting at a BD/SM play weekend. Kinda hard to go monotonous after that. :)
2. You aluded to a point of depression you went thru when you moved back to Long Island with Rocket. How did you deal with it and what things did you do to shake it off?
I was depressed because I'd been laid off from my job down in Northern VA. I don't think I ever really "dealt" with it. It was just a general state of affairs. By the time that I was adjusted to life back on LI, I started having other problems (recurring MRSA infection) that screwed me up for a while longer.
I had a loving puppy who put up with my depression and makes me happy. Made things much easier.
3. Furries, right or wrong, seem to get a bad rap in BDSM circles. This has made it tricky for folks like Smashwolf and myself to connect with folks for quality play. Having met me for a meal and chat at AnthroCon now, what would your thoughts be on play with a pup who's furry based as much as bdsm?
Furries are pariah in most social circles, simply because people don't know how to relate. It's seen as childish or just plain weird. The pup scene does provide for a bit of cross-over, but bd/sm oriented leather pups don't necessarily relate. It's a lack of understanding, or interest in understanding. Most bd/sm pup play is sexually oriented, and fursuits and furries . . . it confuses.
I've really got no advice for you. I'm not a pup trainer. Despite my track record of pups, I'm just a boy who keeps finding himself with dogs. pupzone.com or k9pound.com (nipper_dawg's site) might be worth investigating.
4. You've began finding your character in the fandom and I think its really cool, as I believe there's a lil furry in everyone. Care to share how he came about? And having said that,how close is he to your day to day life?
I wanted a character that was, if not unique, seriously uncommon. I'm not a husky or a puppy except with certain people and in the bedroom. Being a bear was a little too on-the-nose. I don't need a suit to show a fur-covered back. I just need to take off my shirt.
I thought a rhino would be cool because it's not normal, even among furries. They invite images of being gruff, stubborn, lumbering, strong.
5. And only because I'm a mechanic, and a car guy at heart. What do you and your puppy drive? I know he has the bike, but I'm curious about the rest.
I used to have a 1998 Honda Civic. I drive a 2005 Outback Legacy wagon, he drives a Nissan XTerra turbo. I've put 74,500 miles on the wagon since August 2005.
