"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here I am. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8)
How many people have this attitude these days? "Here I am. Send me!" I would guess not many. As Jesus Himself said in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." How many of us are actively preaching or sharing the Word of God with our friends and family? Once again, I would guess not many.<3> Look at Moses and his timidity - a man greatly used of God.
"But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" And God said, "I will be with you... Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?" ... This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you'... Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?"... Then the LORD said, "If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first miraculous sign, they may believe the second... Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say." But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it." Then the LORD's anger burned against Moses." (Exodus 3:11-14, 4:1,8,10-14)
Even after all these objections, God used Moses and used him greatly.
"By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel." (Hebrews 11:24-28)
Do not take this Word of God lightly. At the end times, Jesus will ask what you have done with the resources entrusted to you. Did you use those opportunities He provided to tell your friends about God? Did you take that opportunity to share your testimony with your neighbour? Did you take that opportunity to praise God for His goodness? The servant who deliberately disobeys is thrown into the darkness for disobeying his master, but the servant who scatters seed for his master is exalted and rewarded.
"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day." (John 12:47-48)
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:22-25)
Take your next opportunity to scatter some seed and share about Jesus. He who scatters seed will never run out as the seed is graciously provided by the Lord Jesus. The harvest is great, but the workers are few. As Jesus said, "Ask the Master therefore to send out more workers". The vacancy is there... are you willing to fill it? |
