chunker - it was you that said "mind over matter" to Me on the phone the other day and I can't seem to get that concept out of My head!! It's doing wonders during My workout!! When I start to feel like I want to stop running... I remind Myself "mind over matter." One's mind is stronger than anything else, and I firmly believe this. I've done harder things in My life than run 5 miles... hell I've shat in a toilet (sans toilet seat) in the middle of a desert that didn't flush and I only had 2 THIN sheets of toilet paper to use... ugh. Oh, and no running water to wash My hands. Afterwards I wanted to light My hands on fire, but instead I had to walk through the Valley of the Kings in 120 degree weather. It was tough... but I did it. Not to mention.. this was during what I think was an "e coli" attack from the Egyptian food the night before... you can imagine not only the pain, but also the sheer humility that came along with it...
Don't get Me wrong.. I am not complaining, I know how lucky I am to have been able to take a crap in Egypt.. not many people get that opportunity. I am grateful for it, as a matter of fact :) I am just pointing out that I have been in worse/more uncomfortable situations and My shit attack in Egypt was just one of many.
Some of you may know.. some of you may not know this, but My oldest brother was born with a physical disability and therefore has never been able to walk. He's so positive though, and he's even thankful for his disability. He is My inspiration for running. I HAVE (working) LEGS AND I AM GOING TO USE THEM! I am going to use them to raise money for cancer research and other non-profit organizations.
That being said... I RAN 5 MILES TODAY! STRAIGHT THROUGH!! Okay, it was SLOW... 6mph, BUT, I did it. And I am determined only to get better. Half-marathon here I come! MIND OVER MATTER! Roughly 6 more weeks and I'll be running 13.1 miles. I can do it.
See, and those of you that thought I was completely heartless... well believe it or not, I am a compassionate, grateful, and sincere person. Then there's this whole other side of Me... lol :) I love the internet!! |
