I love it when the universe is in balance:  I've just had my taxes done.  Yes, I know it's 'technically' the last day today and each year I say that I'll do them earlier, but never do...  The expected rebate, less the tax agent's fee, is almost exactly the same amount left owing on my car.

My tax refund will make Manfred all mine.  Yay!!

Slightly spooky, but the Tax Office knows exactly how much interest I earned on my savings during the last year and how many shares I have in the Bank of Queensland and what my group certificate looked like.  The tax agent said, "Didn't you notice you only got one copy of your group certificate?  The Tax Dept already has it."

He also commented that, given the amount I've spent on doctors and drugs, I must be near the safety net limit.  I told him that single people don't have a safety net - not only was the salary threshold for the Medicare levy ludicrously low ($50,000p.a. doesn't buy what it used to, not when your doctor's fees keep going up and the Medicare rebate doesn't), we obviously don't get as sick as married people.  Who, in some cases though not all, have two wages coming in.
