. . . I don't even know where to start.
Phillies! World Series! I can't believe they finally won a World Series. My dad was practically weeping when I spoke with him.
My brother was at the game, and called right after they won to let me hear the complete and utter pandemonium that broke out after the win.
I'm just so pleased and proud.
Speaking of my brother calling, he had just about perfect timing, really. He called right before we went in to see Cobra Starship.
Seriously, this was one of the better shows I've been to in a long while. I was ridiculously excited to see them, which may have helped, but Gabe Saporta and Co. did not disappoint at all.
And not like I didn't have sort of a crush on the adorable Ryland Blackington before, but after watching his white-hot dance moves in his white pants while he busted out some Pleasure Ryland on the keyboards, I can only say A-dorable. :)
The Fillmore is just an awesome venue, and it was a great place to see a show. At one point during The City Is at War so many people were shaking their collective asses on the dance floor that the dance floor itself was actually shaking. It was just a fun, happy crowd, and everyone just seemed like they were there to get their groove on, despite the inexplicable presence of about a zillion twelve-year-olds. I didn't really think that Cobra was so popular with the teenies, but they were harmless and sort of adorable.
We got there late because we stopped for dinner at the Japan Center, so we missed ericaplease's boys Sing It Loud, but it didn't matter. Their lead singer was everywhere, popping up at the merch table, on the dancefloor, and on stage with Cobra singing William Beckett's part on Bring It (Snakes on a Plance). They *might*, collectively, be old enough that all of their ages combined together might make them eligible for Social Security. What I am saying is, boys were young'uns.
We did get to see Hit the Lights, which were definitely the "one of the these things are not like the other" of the evening. They were certainly working hard, which sort of won me over, but not really my cup of tea. They were sort of psuedo-headbanger'y? IDK. They were followed by Forever the Sickest Kids, who were like little, adorable Cobra Starship wannabes. They actually really put on a good set, and had some seriously impressive hair. I mean, I spent much of their set sort of fascinatedly trying to figure out if their drummer's hair was a color created by nature. It was pretty awesome.
Then, COBRA!
Gabe Saporta? funny and possibly more animated than Brendon Urie. He's certainly a charismatic showman, even with his voice at less than full throttle.
The rest of the band? Also funny and awesome. Alex Suarez wore a shirt and tie a la Ryan Ross, and accidentally broke stuff all over the place, much to Gabe's amusement. Vicky-T wore a sparkly tiara and has some serious legs. She also takes about zero shit from the rest of her band, which was kind of fun. Nate Navarro is tiny, and Ryland? Oh, RYLAND. *draws hearts*
From start to finish, they were so high energy, and they really seem to have perfected the art of being professional and practiced while not seeming canned and rehearsed, which I think is harder than it looks, I think. So. Much. Fun.
And since cianconnell mentioned that she was not familiar with the Cobra oeuvre, I'm attaching a few songs from Viva la Cobra in case anyone wants to check them out.
