When I read various Mets blogs, I wonder what it says about me that I don't see the outcome of the World Series as adding insult to injury. I don't begrudge the Phillies for outplaying the Mets during the regular season, and they certainly earned their championship. With the Mets out of the picture, I wasn't sure which team to support: the one whose city has gone without a sports championship for 25 years or the one that had finished in last or next-to-last place every previous season. Last night I cheered for the Rays only because I wanted the World Series to last longer. I just hope the Mets were watching. I hope they find motivation in that sequence of shots showing the reaction of each Phillies position player to the final strikeout.
