Outing: Went trippin' to Roxton Pond, where there's this private zoo called Zoo Icare, or Icarus Zoo. Basically just a gigantic tropical aviary, but the birds are so absolutely adorable. They had a lot of medium-sized birds: conures, lories, cockatiels, and the smaller parrots. I think my favorites were definitely the conures: the Fisher's lovebirds looked similar, but were a hell of a lot noisier. There was a peacock wandering around free, and apparently quite willing to eat sunflower seeds. I've noticed most birds will do anything for sunflower seeds, just like a horse with clover. They even had these termite eaters - forgot what they're called, and something that looked like a flycatcher. Towards the end, there was a couple of those plastic-covered greenhouses, one housing the bigger birds like cockatoos and macaws. Believe it or not, the cockatoos are much less confrontational than macaws, and more talkative - except for the African Grey Parrots, they were the only ones talking, and even then, it was only "Hello." In English, of all things. The African Greys just wolf-whistled. The other greenhouse had free-flying birds you could hand-feed. They were a riot. Managed to coax one of the conures to eat out of my hand, but I was mobbed by this big black parrot that took a liking to my blue backpack, and which I had to shake off when I left off because he wouldn't get off. Aside from these other black/orange/red ones that tried to eat my earrings. Lesson learned: never wear shinies when feeding parrots.
After that, went to the Brome-Knowlton County Fair. Witnessed my first ever tractor pull - not sure I ever want to do it again, but seeing as the only girl who entered in it actually won, maybe I'll go back. Missed out on the monster truck pull, though. Nearly made off with a Corona-labelled cowboy hat - at least, that was one mistake I avoided. It got cold pretty damn fast, and I didn't even get to go on the rides. There's always La Ronde.
