A less than pleasant fact:  The business day in England starts at 8 am.
A fact i have discovered and rediscovered numerous times. This means that if you have a service call coming, dollars (or pounds) to donuts they will show up by 8:30 in the morning or at least call to confirm the appointment.  This has led to multiple episodes of me falling out of bed and looking for a pair of pants as I rush to my intercom/call box to let the guy in before he leaves. It also means that the construction crew operating a bandsaw directly above your head, will start operating it at approximately 7:59, and sometimes 7:30 if they are really feeling rude that day.

Another less than pleasant fact: Getting anyone to fix a problem, hook up your cable or install a pair of blinds involves at least a three week waiting period in between when you call to get something fixed,  and when they can acctually show up (to then wake you up out of bed very suddenly)

This morning, the BT guy showed up at approximately 8:43 am and the hurtle-out-of-bed-and-desperately-search-for-pants went into full effect. I'd like to point out that I did in fact make a mental note to wear pants to bed last night, but somewhere around 2 am my brain got fuzzy and that little reminder didn't quite make it through the processing phase.  On the positive side, I now have a land line. This puts me one eeensy step closer to acctually getting internet in my flat, which would make my life a lot better.  Various telecommunication signals have really not been my strong suit here, although I did successfully acquire a cell phone, I'm still having some issues getting email on it. Additionally, my cable tv crapped out last night, and someone has to come out and look at it on Tuesday (theoretically when the blinds I ordered over a month ago will be installed as well)

The brighter side of being woken up so early and getting all of this out of the way means that I can go and meet Mum at the airport this afternoon when she flies in! Yay! 

On the whole, this week has gone much better than last week (i.e. no crying for half of econ). I made some new friends and found a  MUCH more interesting class to take. This means that Health Economics goes out the window, which I am rather pleased about.  So, my current course schedule looks something like this:

Monday:
10 am to 1 pm - Health and Population in Contemporary Developed Societies - Lecture and Seminar

Tuesday:
10:30 am to 12 pm - Population and Development: An Analytical Aprroach - Lecture
2 pm to 3:30 pm - Foundations of Health Policy - Lecture
3:30 to 5:30 pm - Foundations of Health Policy - Seminar,  Every other week

Wednesday:
1 pm - Knitting Society

Thursday
10:30 am - Population and Development: An Analytical Approach - Seminar

Of the lot, I enjoyed the Thursday seminar the most. We spent the morning discussing risk and preparation for potential catastrophic events...such as a robot invasion or a massive flu pandemic. There is a part of me that absolutely loves talking about world wide apocalyptic events and the interesting people and topics in this class outweigh the less than desirable time slot in my weekly schedule.

On a knitterly note, I am back to making progress on my Green Gable Hoodie after a couple of weeks of frustrated silence on it. It's incredibly annoying to knit an entire sleeve of cables only to discover you made a major mistake 8 inches ago. It took a while, but I finally managed to bite the bullet and rip it back, and have reknit the sleeve properly Only one sleeve to go, and then i can put it all together.  I also finished my swap projected forduskshadows  and sent that off. I'm really pleased with how it came out, but cannot post pictures etc because she might snoop and it's supposed to be a surprise!!
