So i've started volunteering at the library with my dear pal Bekah and we are teaching a drama class for what is supposed to be children from 6-12. What we actually get varies greatly. We had an amazing first class last week with 10 kids showing up and all of them getting really into the games and activities. With the exception of one little boy who seemed to relish punching his brother in the groin, the kids were all well behaved. So we were pretty excited about this week. We had a plan A if the kids could read well and paid attention (The Three Swinging Pigs Reader's Theatre) and a plan B if the kids weren't as good of readers (Ziggy and the Three Pigs). But we did not have a plan C.
And that was our downfall. We started out with 6 kids today. Groin Puncher and brother came back, the head children's librarian's daughter and friend came and then two other little boys. We lost the two boys pretty quickly. I don't think they liked having to pretend they were rocks (come on, how hard is that?) . Then we realized that the remaining children were too young to read at all. So we grabbed the book Three Swinging Pigs and Bekah read it out loud while we attempted to get the kids to act it out. Groin Puncher and his Brother both wanted to be the wolf. I had the bright idea of convincing GP to be a pig, by saying that he could be the one to kill the wolf... So for the entirety of the story (which was actually long, even though Bekah started flipping past entire pages of text) GP was wiggling around, flopping on the floor, humming a bizarre little song, and trying to hit his brother. The other kids weren't quite sure what to do. I gave him my teacher look and told him he needed to freeze silently while the other kids did their part. It worked for about 30 seconds. We struggled through the story and ended early with no serious injuries to any children. Afterwards, Bekah and I decided we needed a plan C- for kids who can't read good. And a plan D for when there aren't many kids. And maybe a plan E for when no kids come. Ooh- and a plan F for if kids do come, but they turn out to be children of the corn or something and try and eat our souls. And maybe a plan H for if we get so many kids we can't fit them all in the room.

In other news, I finally saw Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. It is hosted in it's entirety on www.hulu.com
Which is a fantastic site, really. They have a ton of different tv shows, including Firefly. Which I bought and watched this past weekend and finished this week. Now I'm going to go back and rewatch it because I loved it so much.
I watched the first two episodes of Buffy out of curiosity and found it to be a weird combination of too scary for my liking and also, totally cheesy. I mean, the vampire faces are kind of ridiculous makeup. But just the idea of vampires (of the non-Cullen variety) kind of scare me. I am in a reading/watching slightly scary stuff phase. I guess I missed out on the Goosebumps when I was a kid. I need to watch out though, because I really do have a hyperactive imagination. I don't know that I'll watch more Buffy. But i was intrigued by Angel and found Giles strangely adorable. And of course Buffy/Willow/Xander were really cute as a sort of paranormal Lizzie/Miranda/Gordo type friend triangle.
Actually that would be a show I'd love to see. LIzzie Maguire taking on the undead. Ohh. I wouldn't want her in peril though.
