I randomly looked at my profile page the other day (I think to check and see whether my last.fm info was loading or not), and all of a sudden I have nearly 350 watchers, whaaaaat?  I can never understand how anyone would find anything I post even remotely interesting.  Am I missing something?  It feels like it.  Nonetheless, um... hi, everybody?  You know I love you all, right?  *blows kisses*

Two things I consider of due importance:

  • FreeRice.com!  It's basically a word game of sorts (blank means which of these four words?), but for each one you guess/choose correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated on behalf of the UN's efforts to assuage world hunger.  My one warning?  It's extremely addictive if you love (and are good at) working with words (like I do), so I wouldn't recommend opening that link if you want to get any work done.  I just spent the past couple of minutes stuck on it, and yay for 500 grains! :D

  • I've pimped it before, but it needs to be done again -- Erin needs all the help we can give, and it still only takes about two seconds out of your daily routine to help her.  She's ill and is losing hope on her worst days.  Here's how I avoid forgetting to download every day: make ProjectErin.com your home page!  That way, every time you open your browser, you just click and you're done for that day!  Please people, keep downloading!

This entry is going to be kind of all over the place, I'm just going to warn y'all right now.  Yet another post mainly composed of things that have been marinating in my ToPost.txt file from the Desktop of Zellie.  So, some random other things...

This is old news, and probably doesn't matter to anyone but me, but I felt the need to share, anyway: [info]bardsmaid compared me to Penumbra, as a fanfic writer.  I think I died from the awesome and the shock.  I mean... Penumbra is quite possibly my favorite XF fic author ("Parabiosis" and "Contact High" always jump to mind first, but I love them all).  I don't mean to put her on the spot with this, either.  I realize it was nothing more than an offhand comment at best, but even being put in the same sentence as a writer like Penumbra completely baffled me.  And considering the source -- [info]bardsmaid's site houses some of the very best character analysis and fic for The X-Files that's out there -- I was more flattered than I think I've ever been.  Especially considering I had been extremely reluctant to even post that snippet of my fic in the first place, being as intimidated as I am by the massive size (and overall quality) of the best XF fic out there.  I thanked her then, but thank you again, Susan.  I can't fully express what that meant to me.  I've been so honored to get to know you over these past few weeks, and I certainly hope to talk more with you in the future. ♥

Next thing:  Fellow Friday Night Lights fans!  I finally finished watching Season One, and I loved it!  I'm so glad I bought it blind, because I'm very happy to own such a beautiful show.  Kyle Chandler is as wonderful as ever (Early Edition fans of old, represent!), and Coach/Mrs. Coach is the best marriage I've ever seen depicted on TV.  My request to you?  I have not been able to find a good music resource site for FNL!  They used so many great tracks, but I'm having a hell of a time finding out which episodes used what, artists and song names, etc.  If any of you know of a good resource, let me know!

Also, I'm holding off on watching any of S2 until... an indeterminate time in the (not so near) future.  First off, I've seen very mixed reactions so far (even some extreme claims that it's already "jumped the shark"), and... let's face it, after the horrific disaster that was S3 of Veronica Mars, I'm extremely gun-shy.  I'd much rather just have S1 and love it and have it left untainted, and I've got a busy winter ahead of me as-is.  I'll wait.  (Also, Dexter is now calling to me, and perhaps Weeds as well.  Sorry FNL, I prefer watching you on DVD anyway!)

And lastly (before I post the meme results I've been sitting on for weeks now, anyway), two completely RANDOM things:
  • Every time I see someone type "Momento Mori" I die a little inside.  NOOOO.  NO.  It is "Memento Mori," brush up on your Latin, FOOLS.  "Remember you will die," the "mem" is right in there!  Especially considering it's the title of one of my absolute favorite XF episodes, I just... want to stab things, every time I see that typo.  (Irrational and totally disproportionate response, I know, I know.)  Moving on.

  • Oh, WIN.  I think that's the most priceless "overheard" thing I've read on a blog in a long time.  And it's inspiring, too!  I mean, think of the possibilities...  DAVID DUCHOVNY: Turning gay women straight and straight men gay since 1993.  Yeah, I want that on a shirt.  RIGHT NOW.

All right, now I've only got memes left!  I'm totally stealing the posting format from [info]poetrytoprose, too.  YOINK! ;)

Comment on this post.  I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll reply here, explaining what they mean and why you're using them.  Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.  (Note:  You should by no means feel obligated to do this.  Considering that 99% of you probably already have, like... four weeks ago.  At least.)

:

01. Ohhh, Ed Norton.  Ohhh, Fight Club.  The amount of love I have for both the actor and the film is pretty damn extreme.  This is one of the best icons of him from it that I've seen, too.  "I found freedom.  Losing all hope was freedom."  Chuck Palahniuk is still my favorite modern American novelist today.  If you haven't yet read Invisible Monsters, do it NOW.
02. One of the few stock icons I have left remaining, after adding so many XF icons, lol.  I'm still a mod of [info]simplelimit, so I always feel the need to have a couple handy.  Also, it's gorgeous.  I love the illusion it creates, of the breaking down of white light into its basic color components.  The quote in the comments is one of my favorites from Emerson: "Light is the first painter.  There is no such object that light will not make beautiful."
03. I made this one myself, because it's next to impossible to find those particularly obscure icons you're looking for sometimes, you know?  Le Petit Prince remains my favorite short novel of all time.  As a child, it struck the dreamer in me, but as an adult, the sadness that lurks not so far beneath the surface tugs at my heart.  It's so beautiful, says so much about the different kinds of people, and is a classic and a source of so many famous quotes for great reason.  "One sees clearly only with the heart.  Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."
04. David and Gillian!  One of the cutest shots of them I think I've ever seen.  I believe it's an outtake from one of their earliest TV Guide spreads.  Oh, they are just the best ever.  The quote in the comments is from Gillian, to David: "Your talent has always inspired me.  Without your Mulder, there would be no Scully."
05. Arrested Development remains my favorite comedy, probably ever.  And that icon?  Oh God, the hilarity.  The Sword of Destiny!  "You're losing blood, aren't you?"  "Probably, my socks are wet."  (The quote in the comments is also from that same scene, lmao.)
06. Veronica Mars.  Somehow, I couldn't quite bring myself to dump ALL my icons from that show.  I very may well do so in the future though, because (a) I need to do a (nearly) complete icon overhaul soon, and (b) I need more room for XF and Californication, dammit!  Anyway, it's from S1, when I still loved her (and the show).  I miss those days.  A lot.  Sigh.
07. I ADORE THIS CAP (and the episode it's from, "The Goldberg Variation").  Mulder is just leaning down and Scully is just leaning up, while they wait for a slow elevator, but from the angle?  It looks like she's KISSING HIS FOREHEAD.  Also, the colors are fucking gorgeous.  Oh, X-Files.  Fuck everyone else, I will never, ever stop loving you.

from [info]surrexi:

08. Ed Norton, again!  This time in the absolutely gorgeous film, The Illusionist.  Love the film, love the music, love him.  It's beautiful, and if you haven't seen it yet, you should!
09. (see 02 above)
10. Trio!  I only have a couple of Harry Potter icons, but this one was too cool not to be one of them.  They're the best grouping in the books, in my opinion, and I love the dynamic of friendship and fierce protectiveness between them.  This shot is taken from an OotP promo, I believe.
11. I was one of the few people out there who enjoyed the entire run of Studio 60, and this scene between Matt and Harriet was just beautiful (though it helped a lot that Sting was playing a beautiful acoustic version of "Fields of Gold" in the background, I will admit).  [info]toastandtea is the icon making QUEEN.
12. MULDER.  My one true fictional love, always and forever.  This capture is from "Humbug" (is it sad that I know that?), and the conversation during which he shows his badge is just hilarious (the quote in the comments is from the same episode).  "But I am an FBI agent."  HEE.
13. Another of the few (three total, I think?) VM icons that made the cut.  I made this one, and I've always been rather proud of it.  Veronica is gorgeous in the Pilot (especially during this scene on the beach), and I loved the color I was able to draw out of it, along with the slices of sky that bracket her face.
14. Oh, Jim.  You're kind of a douche half the time these days, but I still love you.  This cap is, of course, from that memorable scene (27 seconds!) in "Booze Cruise".  PPLD!  ([info]bliccy, I am LOOKING AT YOU.)

from [info]poetrytoprose:

15. Audrey Tautou, being her insanely beautiful self, in black and white glory.  Watch Amélie, and you'll fall as much in love with her as I am, it's practically guaranteed.
16. George Michael and Maeby, of Arrested Development!  GUYS, THEY ARE SO AWKWARD AND CUTE.  The only ship I've ever shipped that at all involved incest (or did it?), and I'm sticking to my guns on that one.  How can you not love them?  "Well, isn't that what makes it funny?  I'm laughing…  Go Fish…  Uno…  I gotta finish this drink."
17. Oh, Third Watch, I miss you so.  Remains the best cop show I ever saw, because it didn't just focus on cops; they covered paramedics and the fire house, too.  I just loved it.  Bosco was my favorite, being the idiotic (yet hilarious) ass that he was, and yes, I DID ship Bosco/Faith.  WHAT OF IT?  "Do you have to embarrass me like that?"  "Sorry, I'll go back to letting you do it yourself."  "Thanks."
18. [info]unafraid_ (one of my favorite iconists) made this icon for me, using this cap, which remains one of THE most gorgeous caps of Mulder I've ever seen.  God, he is just beautiful.  Also, it's from one of my favorite episodes ("Detour"!), and not too long after this shot, Mulder adorably says: "Par-TAY" and makes me love him 80 times more than I already do.
19. (see 07 above)
20. OH, "CHINGA."  It's funny how I always forget so much about the episode itself (even though it's penned by Stephen King and is pretty fucking freaky, WHAT), and always remember most vividly the little scenes with Mulder, being completely bored and pathetic without Scully around to pester.  The entire scene with the pencils cracks my shit up every single time.  "There's got to be an explanation."
21. To quote [info]poetrytoprose: "I HAD TO CHOOSE THE PILOT ONE BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY EPISODE I'VE SEEN, OKAY?  DO NOT JUDGE ME."  (You will see more soon, BB.  Soon!)  I have to have at least one Pilot icon.  It's like a rule, or something.  They are just so CUTE and YOUNG and alkhgakldghlakgh.  I already want them to have sex in the office at this point, and they're just shaking hands.  ...What?

from [info]_jems_:

22. Who here has seen Drop Dead Gorgeous?  I love black comedy, and that movie is a definite guilty pleasure from that genre.  What's not to love about Kirstie Alley playing a psychotic, religious nut from Minnesota who hosts an annual beauty pageant?  For the times when I need a "HAPPY!" icon, this one of Amber tap dancing on the sidewalk works quite well, I think.
23. (see 02 above)
24. I only have a handful of Office icons (four, I think), and one of them needed to be happy, dammit!  Pam is very cute in this icon, and the shot is one of those that I love from the slight "style" to the show -- seeing the people over the edges of computer screens and fake potted plants.  Call me crazy, but I love shots like that, and the colors in this one are lovely.
25. Oooooh, "Monday," one of my favorite episodes ever.  I believe [info]unafraid_ made this one at my request also, and despite the fact that Mulder is mortally injured in it (OMG NO), I love the angle of the shot.  The entire sequence, where Scully is cradling him in the floor, is beautiful in a bloody, gruesome way (like much of XF is, really).  Also, VM fans who loved the La Pietà shots on the show?  Yeah, XF totally did it first.  SOMUCHLOVE.
26. "Pine Bluff Variant," another favorite episode.  Each XF episode really is a miniature feature film in so many ways, but this one in particular.  (It's inspired, in many ways, by one of the greatest action films ever made, Michael Mann's Heat as well, which just gives it a ton more awesome points in my book.)  The scene this icon is from is incredibly intense, though.  Right after "the Gimp" breaks Mulder's finger while they're interrogating him.  Gahhhhh.
27. More X-Files love!  This quote is Mulder's of course, from the wonderful classic, "Small Potatoes."  I can totally understand why they submitted this episode for Emmy consideration for David, because he's absolutely hysterical playing Mulder as not!Mulder (or rather, Eddie Van Blundht as Mulder).  However, I've always wished they'd submitted "Paper Hearts" instead; I'm convinced he would've gotten the Emmy for that one.  (Whoa, tangent ahoy!)
28. AHAHAHA.  I made this one for myself (and for anyone else who loves that scene as much as I do, from "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'") because IT IS AMAZING.  Every time I watch Mulder scarfing down all that sweet potato pie, I lose it.  PIE.  PIE AND MULDER in the same icon.  Is there any more WIN than that?  I think not.

And we are finally done!  If you actually read all of that?  Well, you're pretty amazing.  REMINDER:  If you've got anything more to share/contribute to the Vancouver Trip, please comment at the planning post!  And now, all that I have left is a few final Random Thoughts...

Big chunk of (great) X-Files episodes on TNT tonight, WHOO.  (Specifically, "The Amazing Maleeni," "Signs and Wonders," "Sein und Zeit" and "Closure," omg.)  Most importantly, however: David Duchovny DANCING with Craig Kilborn is possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen.  (HOW is he so cute?  Shake that fine ass, David!)  This entry is entirely on crack.  Carry on!
