My week thus far: Monday: This was a pretty easy and chill day. Not much happened until the BGLSA meeting. At the meeting we played “The Big Gay Game Show!!” Since I am a part of the executive board I couldn’t play (the rest of the executive board and I came up with the questions the night before.) but I still had a great time. Afterwards I walked back to my dorm with Spot. Spot lives in the same building as I do and I think he’s kinda cute, but I usually can’t make conversation with him. That night though it was easy because I guess I wasn’t trying so hard. With any luck I can get to know him some more. He is a really cool guy who is well loved and shares my mutual weirdness. Tuesday: I went to a local middle school to do my first observation for my Mued 200 class. It went really well except this one trombone player in front of me kept trying to talk to me and the other kids from my class. He also didn’t know how to handle a trombone and kept banging it into his stand and jamming his finger on his slide. Afterwards he would say “Shit” (this kid is a six grader) and ask me if I was this guy off of America’s Got Talent…Just for clarification I’m not. Wednesday: I make it to band practice and find out we are learning the “Thriller Dance”. I knew this was coming since last Friday and we had started playing the music the day before. It’s an arrangement of “Thriller” with excerpts from “Bille Jean” and “Beat It”. I love it. Thursday: So I get to English class and have no idea what to expect. As I mentioned before my English teacher is crazy and our discussions are always very interesting. That day we were talking about Frankenstein. So things are going normal until she says “I think Dr. Victor Frankenstein is gay.” My first thought was “What????” She then proceeds to support her views. She brings up Henry and how on multiple occasions the doctor said that he loved him. Then she pointed out the fact that the Dr.'s fiancé (who he didn't say he loved nearly as much as he loved Henry) didn't think they would ever marry because he was always off with Henry. Usually they were off...in another ... country....alone together. Seriously if your own fiancé thinks you’re gay...you have a problem. She also talked about the fact that he made a male monster and not a female one. She also mentioned stereotypical stuff like he was very emotional and ALWAYS crying and fainting, and getting sick. Looking back at the text it looks like she may have a point. From here she went back to Dracula and how she thinks he is bisexual (we had a discussion on this like 2 weeks ago and this was another well supported idea). After this she stated the fact that she believes that some Victorian writers were writing semi-homoerotic novels as a way to address the then (and sadly still kinda) taboo issue of homosexuality. Oh I love English because we always talk about such interesting topics lol. Friday/today: Thus far not much has happened. I took a quiz in Spanish and reviewed for a test in Theory. I’m currently doing my office hours. As for the rest of the day I foresee cleaning, watching The Nightmare Before Christmas (I just got it on Netflix :D) , writing music for the arrangement contest(there are so many songs I can do but I can’t pick one X_X) , and just chilling. So yeah that’s about it for now… Till next post -Leo
