Today in English we were introduced to iambic pentameter poetry, and we read Shakespeare's Sonnet 27. Then we were told to write our own, something about  ecology since the english and biology honors classes are sort of connected. Anyway, since the only decent poetry I seem to write anymore seems to be for school (more about my past poetry in another post) I thought I'd share.

It all started with a light in the dark
It shone so bright with a small glint of hope
It sang to us like the song of a lark
Though life was harsh we knew that we could cope
Alas the oceans came to sing its song
The mountains rose above our lovely earth
a rush of life came in to stay for long
Among the life there came new birth
New flowers in the ground began to grow
Causing small birds and bees to pollenate
Creatures began to swim in the ocean flow
But as sweet love formed new bonds so did hate
Hope the damage caused won't make the world fall
That the damage will cease once and for all
