Yesterday was a super long day at work. I have absolutely no reason why this was the case, but it was. Must've been because it was Friday. Oh, well. But I did go to a pizza place last night for one of my coworker's birthday. There was about 30 people there (only 5 of us from work, including the birthday girl), and they split us up between two tables. And, they only had 1 1/2 waitresses for our party. That made absolutely no sense. But, the pizza was good, and had wierd names. Like mine: Girl from Ipanema. Then there was "Inspiration Point." There were some that I dare not mention with little eyes around as well. I came home early, because I was tired, and a little bummed. The executive assistant that I work with said that she was fired yesterday and has 45 days to find a job. At least they gave her 45 days, but still, I'm gonna miss her. But, I have a month and a half before she goes, so there is that.
Today,I did absolutely nothing. Well, that's not entirely true, but it wasn't too ev entful. I guess the more accurate statement would be that this morning, I did absolutely nothing. I was asked yesterday if I could come in to work for a little bit today to help our IT director change a couple server racks, as they're heavy, and he needed some muscle. He must not know me too well, because I have no muscle...that's at least what Jason & Chad tell me. Anyway, when I called to tell him I was going to leave, he said that the new servers don't fit into the existing rack, so they need to order a new rack. So, that means I might have to go in for an hour or two next weekend. Fun, fun. Meg worked today, so I decided to meet up with her after she was done and go into Chinatown. (I wanted to get a little more stuff to send to everybody.) And, yes, that means that I'll be mailing it out soon. Hopefully Monday. But, in order to get it from Mom/Grandma, you need to give her a puppy kiss (sorry, mom, had to do it). And now I'm home.
Excepts taken from Wikipedia Chinatown is one of North America's largest Chinatowns. It is also the oldest Chinatown. Established in the 1850s, it has been featured in popular culture, such as in film, music, photography, and literature. Chinatown is located in downtown San Francisco. It is roughly bordered by Powell Street and the Nob Hill District on the west. On the east is Kearny Street and The City's Financial District. On the north is North Beach and Green Street and Columbus Street. On the south is Bush Street and the Union Square area. Despite its decline, it has been slowly expanding northward into the North Beach neighborhood north of Green and Columbus Street. San Francisco's Chinatown was the port of entry for early Taishanese and Zhongshanese Chinese immigrants from the southern Guangdong province of China from the 1850s to the 1900s. The area was the one geographical region deeded by the city government and private property owners which allowed Chinese persons to inherit and inhabit dwellings within the city. The majority of these Chinese shopkeepers, restaurant owners, and hired workers in San Francisco Chinatown were predominantly Taishanese and male. Many Chinese found jobs working for large companies seeking a source of cheap labor, most famously as part of Central Pacific on the Transcontinental Railroad. Other early immigrants worked as mine workers or independent prospectors hoping to strike it rich during the 1849 Gold Rush. />The neighborhood was completely destroyed in the 1906 earthquake that leveled most of the city. During the city's rebuilding process, racist city planners and real-estate developers had hatched plans to move Chinatown to the Hunters Point neighborhood at the southern edge of the city, even further south in Daly City, or even back to China; and the neighborhood would then be absorbed into the financial district. Their plans failed as the Chinese, particularly with the efforts of Consolidated Chinese Six companies, the Chinese government, and American commercial interests reclaimed the neighborhood and convinced the city government to relent. Part of their efforts in doing so was to plan and rebuild the neighborhood as a western friendly tourist attraction. The rebuilt area that is seen today, resembles such plans. Now, I'm doing laudry. That's how exciting my life is tonight. Tomorrow, my roommate, her cousin (who lives in the building next to ours) and I are going to North Beach (San Francisco's "Little Italy") for the "North Beach Street Fair." Then, the plan is to go to Target and Safeway. We're out of pop (it's called soda here, and they look at you funny when you ask for pop) and I need some food. Well, it's time to take my clothes out of the dryer. I'll try to post tomorrow with some pictures of the Street Fair. |
