So gordoom and I went to see Passchendaele. Suffice it to say that there was dead silence in the theatre at the end - you could have heard a pin drop. Which... well. I've never seen that before.

anyway so it was really good - pretty brutally realistic in some parts but good... though the script could have seriously used some work at some points - one bit had the love interest all dramatically being "I'm broken! Quite broken!" (insert dramatic hand on forehead gesture here, give or take faint). And there was some bizarre recurring convo about painting a picture that made no sense whatsoever. AND there were a couple of really oddly cinematographed (is that a word?) sex scenes.

It's a weird feeling to think they got real CF members back from/pre-deployment toAfghanistan to play some of the soldiers. Talk about realism.

Calgary looked like a Wild West town, but then I guess it was. Also - and this just occurred to me - the contrast between the gorgeousness of the Rockies and the foothills vs the battlefield was quite striking when you think about it. But OMG, there was one scene when they were literally sitting on a hill overlooking, like, the PERFECT vista. Not just picturesque, but as in, if you think of the 'perfect', storybook landscape, that was it - a deep blue river through a gorge lined with evergreens and steep cliffs with rolling hills and mountains behind, not that I can describe it hee. In a nutshell: it was gorgeous. I kinda forgot to look at the characters.

Oh yes ANND gordoom qualifies for the catch of the day for noticing that one of the production partners was the Damberger Film and Cattle Company. How's that for an only-in-Canada line? XDDD
