Title: alarm clock
Series: X/1999
Character(s): Kamui, Subaru,
Genre: Friendship, Fluff,
Ratng: PG
Summary: Kamui has lost all hope in technology

            “Crap! Crap! Crap!” Kamui jumped out of bed, not before getting tangles in the sheets and falling to a pile of flailing limbs on the floor.

            “Kamui, get up you’re gonna be late!” Sorota banged on his door, “You’ll get detention if you keep this up!”

            “Shut up! Shut up!” Kamui groaned, detangling the pesky sheets with a kick, “Guh!” taking a towel that hung from the closet he flew out of his room to the bathroom, his alarm clock failed to go off—again! This was the third time and Kamui’s hope in technology was slowly beginning to fade—he wondered if he could get a rooster somewhere, maybe that will wake him up on time.

~~

            Subaru was sitting on the kitchen table, sipping steaming tea and a newspaper was before him, content with the few moments of silence before—

            “You saw the time and you didn’t even bother to wake me up!” he heard Kamui yell down the hall, well, so much of silence. He saw Kamui stomp into the kitchen, his uniform ruffled and wrinkled and his tie askew. His tousled hair looked more of a mess than ever—but the dark strands framed his face becomingly.

            “Good morning Subaru,” Kamui greeted over his shoulder as he inspected the refrigerator for a quick breakfast, “I don’t know how you manage to wake up so early—and at the same time!” he huffed, pulling out a fruit bowl. Subaru smiled slightly, well seeing how he only slept five hours a night it wasn’t a hard feat. But he did sympathize with Kamui, it had been three days now that the young Seal would run to school five minutes before homeroom.

            Sorota strode into the kitchen, “Ah! Subaru-san, always the early riser,” he glanced a look at Kamui who was perched on the counter chewing mindlessly on a slice of honeydew melon. “You can learn a thing or two from Subaru—he could set a great example for you Kamui, maybe it can help you wake up on time.”

            A red grape was beamed at Sorota, splattering between his eyebrows, Subaru suppressed a grin.

~~~
            “Okay,” Kamui had settled in bed, the covers tucked neatly at his waist, his alarm clock in hand. He had checked the little ‘ON’ button on the back twice, if it didn’t go off at—then, well lets hope that it does.
            He placed the clock back on the nightstand and sleepy violet eyes gazing at the flashing red numbers, 10:15. Kamui let out a yawn and buried his face into the pillow—that damn clock better ring!
~~~

            Subaru ran his fingers through his still damp hair, having it air dry from his quick shower, the house was still silent, the Seals still deep in sleep. He sighed, he knew that in half an hour they would all be scrambling out of their beds, shoving each other away from the showers, and throwing on their uniforms. He just wanted to be clear off that path of mayhem. He passed by Kamui’s door, inside he heard faint beeps.

            Beep. Beep. Beep.

            He paused at the door and listened more intently, the slight beeps were still there. His brow drew slightly, “What is that?”

            Beep. Beep. Beep.

            He pondered twice before reaching to turn the door knob—it had been rude of him to enter Kamui’s bedroom without knocking—but he thought that today the common courtesies could hold.

            Subaru stepped inside the dim room; Kamui slept with the blinds shuts, preventing any sunlight to pour in.

            “Ow,” Subaru hissed, having tripped over one of Kamui’s text books, the light was scarce in the room, but he was sure he could navigate through the maze of clutter on the floor.

            He stepped over last night’s homework, shoes, and empty water bottles—Subaru wasn’t expecting a sixteen year old boy’s room to be immaculate; if Hokuto had let him had his was when he was young, his bedroom would had probably been in the same condition.

            If he squinted hard enough, he was sure there was a pile of dirty laundry at the corner of the room, he sighed, he had no right to be nit picking at a room that wasn’t his, if Kamui needed his room to be messy, then he had no right to tell him other wise.

            Subaru followed the ‘beep’ until he saw what it was, the alarm clock that Kamui had sworn a painful death upon if it failed him to wake him up.

            Gingerly, he picked up the offending clock, wondering why the alarm came in slight ‘beeps’ he turned the black box around several times, until he saw the reason why it was ringing so softly.

            The alarm was on as it should be, but the volume was low, mewls barely audible to a deep sleeper like Kamui.

            Subaru turned the dial up slowly, the volume increasing; he winced at the piercing ring filling the room. He looked down at the shifting pile of blankets on the bed,

            “Mffhmm,” came the low groan from under the duvet, a slender arm peeked out of the sheets and reached out towards the night stand, reaching for air until his hand slapped against the hard tabletop. The hand lazily moved on the smooth surface, searching for the offending devise. “Guh…”

            Subaru placed the clock back down and shook Kamui, “Wake up,”

            “Guh…” was the muffed reply, the duvet slowly snaking away from his head, “What the…?” finally a ruffled head emerged from the sheets.

            A single violet eye slid open, “…Subaru…?”  he blinked a couple of times, he knew he had dreams about Subaru, but never this real that if he reached out to touch the onmyouji’s slender face, he would feel actual warmth.

            Kamui hazily touched Subaru’s face…and froze. What the hell?

            What was Subaru doing in his bedroom in the middle of the night? Kamui tried to fight back the deep crimson that heated his face—talk about dreams coming true huh?

            The silence was broken with Subaru’s whisper, “You’re going to be late for school Kamui, get up.”

            “Whaa…?” Kamui creased his brow in confusion, trying to comprehend that sentence, ‘late for school?’

            ‘Late’

            ‘School’

            SCHOOL!

            “What time is it?” Kamui scrambled off the bed, half landing on the startled onmyouji, who instinctively stepped to the side and away from Kamui’s path of destruction.

            “You piece of crap!” Kamui growled at the still beeping alarm clock—Subaru felt a vague wave of pity for the unfortunate device. The boy flung the black box across the room, chunks of plastic skidding across the hardwood floor.

            Kamui grabbed his towel and shouted over his shoulder, “Thanks Subaru!” and ran down the hall, shoving Sorata to the side to get to the shower first.

            “Hey!”
