The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at Nova Southeastern University will co-sponsor the second annual South Florida Irish Film Festival along with the South Florida Consortium for Irish Studies, October 2731, 2008. The festival will showcase four films by young independent Irish filmmakers. This years films include:
Small Engine Repair

About the film: Doug, an aspiring country singer in his 40s, has spent his life as a loser in a non-descript small town where nobody believes in his heartbreaking voice and talent as a musician. When the last of his music pupils deserts him, Doug is forced to face up to the fact that his music career is going nowhere. Doug has hit rock-bottom, but with the help of his best friend Bill and local bar owner Big Eddy, he is handed one last chance to show he can make it to the big time.
Saviours

About the film: Passionately filmed for two years with no budget, Saviours is the debut feature-length film by Ross Whitaker and Liam Nolan. The film is an intimate, gripping documentary following three young boxers from the same Dublin boxing club, St. Saviours Olympic Boxing Academy, as they fight for a better life both inside and outside the ring.
Red Mist

About the film: When Ireland soccer captain Roy Keane is sent packing from the World Cup in May 2002 by his manager Mick McCarthy, the country flies into a tailspin. The hurt still lingers. Red Mist is a light-hearted, affectionate snapshot of an extraordinary week in the life of a nation traumatized by a row between two big men in shorts on the other side of the world.
The Frontline

About the film: In this hard-hitting emotional thriller, the outwardly unassuming Joe Yumba fights for his life, and the lives of those close to him, when he is forced to take part in a hazardous bank heist under the command of ruthless gangster Eddie Gilroy.
