So today he told me that his car is in the shop, it's probably the transmission, going to be expensive, yada-yada-yada. His roommate dropped him off and was returning to pick him up at midnight but wasn't happy about it because he works in the morning. Perfect opportunity, right? I could give him a ride. Except that he lives 15 miles in the opposite direction of my apartment. It's not on the way at all. How can I spin this? Well, I have a Prius. It gets good mileage. It's not like I'm doing anything anyway. So after festering over this for a good half of the night, I finally made up some reason to have him come over to my desk and gradually steered the conversation towards his car sitch. I casually volunteered to give him a ride home if he'd rather not bother his roommate. He thought about it for a bit, and then said nah. (Frick!) Then he suggested maybe Thursday I could give him a ride home if his car still isn't fixed. But what did I say? "Oh, but that's the day that I have school in the morning, so I will have been awake since 5:30 a.m." WHAT? GAH! DOH! Again with the "I carried a watermelon" remark! But he just said, "Oh, that's okay then. I can keep bothering Roommate. Or one of my other friends has two cars, so I can borrow one from him." (DOUBLE FRICK!)
Cut to a few minutes later when we are talking about tentative plans for the weekend. His current plans to go to Milwaukee may be ruined if his car repair is expensive. I mentioned that I still have to see Dark Knight...so does he! But right away, he was all, "But I have one other friend that hasn't seen it yet either so I'll probably go with them." And then he threw in the comment, "Plus, I'm taking my friend Jess (the girl/cockblocker he brought to the party a couple weeks ago) to see X-Files on Friday to celebrate her being done with the bar exam." (TRIPLE FRICK!)
In between all this, though, I swear he has been stealing glances at me, especially when I walk from the kitchen back to my desk since I walk right in his line of sight. He also joins me outside when I go for walks and finds reasons to ask me INANE questions all night, and then tonight I needed him to help me with a thing, and he turned it into this HALF HOUR conversation!
Maybe he's just putting me off until I'm officially not his supervisor anymore. That's the story I'm sticking with. Of course, with all of my obsessing (we are friends on Facebook now too, btw), I'm thinking, "Maybe he's gay." I don't know where the hell that came from, but it's there, in my mind, freakin' me out. (Well, I kinda know where it came from: he has a lot of friends that are girls and there are a fair number of pictures of him on FB playing Twister with a bunch of dudes. WTF?)
Anyway, right as he was leaving tonight, he came over to give me a status update on his project, and I quickly said to him (in front of another coworker, but I don't care), "If you still need a ride on Thursday, I can give you a ride." He said, "Okay, thanks," and was out the door.
Welp, there's nothing I can do now until Thursday so I just need to put it out of my mind so I can concentrate on school tomorrow. Yah, rite.
