I have been feeling very sad for various reasons for the last few days. Luckily for me, I had been saving Gong Yoo's drama One Fine Day for just such an occasion. It has not let me down.



Who could be at the door? It's Gong Yoo in a moustache! And he brought dinner!


It took me forever to untangle the complicated family relationships. There are siblings, step-siblings, and adopted siblings and tons of the patented Korean quasi-incest.

But before we delve into that.



Our drama starts off with a mysterious man on a motorcycle. He steals some money from some (Australian) thugs and then drives off a cliff and into the ocean!



Even better, our mysterious motorcyclist turns out to be Gong Yoo! He plays 'Gun,' a broody, mostly shirtless, gentleman who marries women so they can get residence cards in Australia. They tend to fall for him in real life, but he always refuses their offers of real marriage. (Who can blame them for trying, though?)

Gun lives with his adoptive father and sister - who is totally and creepily in love with him. She has severe drama disease and needs an expensive operation. Gun, being the noble and good person that he is, works his fingers to the bone to earn money for her surgery. He even humors her repeated badgering of him to get married to her instead of those other ladies. She is spoiled and selfish and I hated her from the moment she appeared on screen.

Unlike Sung Yu Ri's creepy adoptive brother, who is just as over the top with the obsessive, but about a million times more entertaining.



Here he is making sure that she is wearing a color-coordinated head band to match her dress.



There is also secondary guy, but he's kind of boring. How can you win against this:



Gun, having a gun shoved to his head and beat up by gangsters to save his family - or this -



Creepy, lurking adoptive brother who opens your locked door at night to peer down at you and gently stroke your face.

Secondary guy, you just can't compete for screen time.



Well, it turns out that Gun and Sung Yu Ri are siblings! Not real siblings - step siblings - but Sung Yu Ri doesn't know that. Gun has been looking and looking for her since they were separated 20 or so years ago. He finally gets word of her wherabouts as the gangsters he stole the money from catch up with him and beat the crap out of him. He wisely decides to leave Australia and try to connect with his sister.



Secondary girl stalks him to Korea. In fact, she leaves the hospital bed that Gun risked his life to pay for to do it, too. How ungrateful can you be?



"Sung Yu Ri, have this necklace before you go to play the piano!"

She doesn't want to play the piano. In fact, she's tired of your creepy behavior and her parent's smothering and is going to run away.



But Gun is there to make sure she's okay! Go, Gun! Also, go, Sung Yu Ri for paying for the running away taxi ride with the creepy necklace!



Gun and Sung Yu Ri go to the tower where they spent 'One Fine Day' when they were kids. Sung Yu Ri doesn't know who he is and is extremely weirded out by this mysterious stranger.



Even when he's being nice and gives her his coat!



He keeps trying to jog her memory, but she's like an abused dog and shrinks from any contact what so ever. She has really given up on life and just wants to keep her head down and avoid notice.



She is seriously calling out for help.



Gun is worried! And she runs away from him! Right into the arms of Creepy Brother!!!!





Secondary guy tries to make a name for himself by attempting to protect her from Creepy Brother, but it's pretty worthless.
