our turn

this morning, the last day
       of april, it snowed. for thirty

minutes the light lace trimmed
       the shock of fresh trees along

the mountainside, peach fuzz
       pale green on the lip

of the adolescent earth. for
       everything there is a season.

the unsightly, party-crashing
       silver swiftly took its leave,

and the leaves recommenced
       their joyous spring noel.





[And that does it!  Woo-hoo!!!!  I survived National Poetry Month, writing a poem a day for 30 days!  Couldn't (probably wouldn't) have done it without the encouragement and example of many poet-comrades, here in LiveJournal and elsewhere on the web.  Should I name names?  Robin, Rosa, lalizi, ka_crow, mthrtongue, ypolita, Oscar / geminipoet, Jan, Emma, l.ho., Shelagh, and Candice -- you've all been great at keeping me going, whether writing your poems and commenting here, on your own blogs, or in emails.  Many thanks.  I'll leave this (and the Sean Bell posting) up through the end of the day tomorrow, then I'll be putting "words intended as poetry" into semi-retirement until I figure out whether I have time to blog regularly . . . or until next April -- whichever comes first!]
