GLY is a car-free island accessible by a 5-6min ferry ride fr Xiamen Ben3 Dao3 ( main island )
The image above is the ferry terminal building.... the roof is shaped like a grand piano's lid!!
My FIL visited GLY back in 1989 n he also took a pix of this unique 'roof'....

There are White Dolphins in XM waters and they're a protected species in XM...

Consulates of 13 ctries once set base here in GLY.....  these buildings are now used
for other purposes..... there were 5 churches in GLY back then, but 3 had been converted to nursing homes.

a 300 Year Old Banyan Tree ( RONG2 SHU4 )!

Lots of Arts School in GLY..... saw abt 4 buskers during my short tour of the place...

Steps leading up to a Hotel

MESMERIZING ISNT IT??

Gulangyu's Sunlit Rock (Riguangyan, 日光岩)

THIS IS WAT GOT ME MOST EXCITED!!
THE PIANO MUSEUM!!!!!

Unfortunately, photography is strictly prohibited inside *SIGH*

BUT THANKS TO THIS WONDERFUL SITE, u get a glimpse of some pianos stored here!
http://www.amoymagic.com/discovergulangyu7mus.htm

There are ard 80+ pianos ( some say 100 ) stored in this museum, spilt btn 2 buildings.

My jaw dropped when i saw 'em.....  i cld only manage words like WOWWWWW!
WAHHHHHHHHH!!!!   words cannot describe my feelings when i saw these
wonderfully preserved pianos!!!

BRANDS (YEAR OF MANUFACTURE ):

G. Schwediden ( Mid 19th C )
Ronisch ( 1902 )
Clementi & Co
Francis Clough ( 1827 )
Kirkman London ( 1865 )
Pasquale & Co  ( a street piano 1829 )
F. Kaim & John
Broadway & Sons
Collard & Collard
Josif Banggula
Srhulfr
Busrndorfer
PLEYEL ( 1877 )

Some of the pianos in those days r intricately carved n presents itself more as a pc of furniture than an instrument.

I ALSO SAW A RARE HARPSICHORD!!!!!
Maendler- Schramas ( 1906 )  This harpsichord was made in Munich, Germany.
The factory was totally destroyed during WW2 but it was not rebuilt after the war. Hence, this piano is rarer.

Piano in those days had a wooden frame, unlike the iron frame which is used in the modern pianos. The wooden frames are unable to withstand the strength of the strings ( hammering ), hence the piano produces a rather weak sound and easily goes out of tune.

The most interesting 'sight' in GLY muz be THIS

Apparently, he's trying to seek redress for his mom n himself. He willingly offered to be
photographed whenever he sees tourists approaching.
