So I voted today and got that all taken care of. The line was so long, even though early voting has already been going on for days, that it took me almost two hours to get in and cast my vote. I actually got a slight sunburn just from standing in line for that long! lol
But I'm glad that's all taken care of. I'll be going to Ft. Lauderdale pretty soon, and I didn't want to have to make a special trip back up to Palm Beach County to get my vote in.
With regards to my crazy mail problems: I never heard back from the post office yesterday (surprise!), so I called again today. I let the phone ring for literally 20 minutes before somebody actually picked up. (This happened the first time I called down there, too!) Then I had to wait on hold for ages and ages and ages while they tried to find a supervisor who could fix my problem. Finally the lady got back on the line and said she would have to take my number and get the supervisor to call me back. By that time I'd been on the phone just waiting for about 30 or 40 minutes. I told her I didn't want to get off because it took me 20 minutes just to get somebody on the phone, and I didn't believe anyone would call me back. I said I was at a loss because I called yesterday and was told someone would call me back, and they never did, and I really need to get the problem with my mail solved immediately, bla bla bla.
Then I said "I don't know what else to do but come down there in person and try to get this resolved." The lady said, "Well, you can do that, but either way, I can't get you the supervisor now so I will have to take your name and number." So I said, "The only problem with me coming there in person is that I live 30 miles away now," which is true. So this lady said in response, "Well, that's your choice." Well I just lost it. I raised my voice and said, "Ma'am, your post office is mis-delivering my mail and losing my packages, and that was NOT my choice!" lol It turned out that apparently she meant it was my choice whether or not to come down there in person, but the timing of her remark made it sound like she was saying it was my choice to move away from Boca and forfeit my privilege to receive mail. At any rate, though, she finally gave the number of some customer service supervisor, who picked up right on the first ring when I called her, and assured me she would light a fire under the Boca post office's ass to get my mail problems sorted out. Also she informed me that apparently it is typical for them to simply not answer the phone down there, that they are the worst post office in her area to try to communicate with, and that even when she herself calls, she can't get through half the time. Great!
But I did get a follow-up call from a supervisor at my old post office after talking to the customer service lady, so I do feel somewhat better. I was told they are working on the problem and they know where the confusion lies, and they will call me tomorrow when it's all fixed. I do have to say that everybody I've talked to has been very nice and helpful so far when I've actually managed to get them on the phone. It's a lot easier to be patient and polite when the people you're talking with are patient and polite, too. The only thing I feel bad about is losing my temper with that one lady because of the unfortunate timing of her comment. lol
So hey, maybe I'll actually start receiving my own forwarded mail pretty soon! |
