I don't know how much of this actually makes it to the international news, but the crime level rate in Mexico has gone insanely high as of late. Sons and daughters of VIPs are being kidnapped (and murdered) left and right, robberies, violence... so the government goes "O SHI, MAYBE IT'S TIME WE ACTUALLY STARTED DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, HUH" and so they come up with plans of action and programs and shit that are supposed to start showing results in less than 100 days.

And in the process of all this, they find out that a great deal of the kidnappers, drug dealers, and other assorted people related to crime are. As a matter of fact. Part of the police!!1

Epic lulz is had by all, only not.

On Saturday, there's going to be a nation-wide demonstration wherein people dressed in white will walk silently, holding candles, and finishing by singing the national anthem at 8:30pm. People who don't attend will also be able to participate by placing candles outside of their houses, and turning off all the lights at 8:30. I think it will be very imposing.

I'd considered attending, because while I'm not sure I believe in the effectiveness of demonstrations, I wanted to be a part of this. One more person who is tired of living in constant fear.

Today, while I was on my way to visit my grandma (for Grandparents Day), I was robbed. I was sitting in a parked van with two other passengers and the driver when a big man got on and sat by my side, very close. He started talking to me, but I had my earphones on so I only got to listen the last bit of it. "Give me everything you have on you." Then he looked down, I looked down too, and saw a hugeass butcher knife peeking out of his pocket.

So I started taking off my cell phone when in my mind I went "FUCK NO, I AM NOT GIVING THIS ASS MY PHONE, THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF THOUGHT I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING RIGHT NOW BECAUSE DUDE LOOK AT THAT KNIFE BUT NO." And I shifted, leaving the cell phone on the seat next to me, and reached for my mp3 player which was in my back pocket. At this point, the guy was already going "Hurry up! There's four of us here, so give me that already."

At this point, I think I was more pissed than scared, so I just gave him the mp3 player and hoped he wouldn't ask for the cell phone, or any of the stuff I had in my back pack (money and my DS). The man looked at the mp3 player for a brief second, and then got off the van, fleeing the scene. The driver asked what he'd taken while the other two passengers just kind of stared. (This all happened in broad daylight, it was like 2pm).

Aaaanyway, to make a long story short, I'm a little shaken but fine. I'm happy he didn't take my cell phone or anything else, I'm pissed because while my mp3 player was old and in need of replacement, it was my mp3 player. I cannot live without music and sdjka auuugh. Another thing that sucks is the fact that this all took place outside of the metro station that I invariably need to take for visiting my grandmother, so ha ha ha, there'll be plenty of paranoia for a good while, there.

On the upside, I saw a good number of policemen wandering about the station on my way back, so hopefully someone did something about that, we'll never know. Blah blah, I'm safe and that's what matters most, I'll stop whining now.

So. Even if I end up not attending the demonstration, I do want to take part in it, and I really fucking hope the authorities finally truly realize how important it is to do something about the situation. Please.

I was going to ramble about the situation here with my mom and back there with my grandma, but I'm lazy and I want to distract myself, so that'll have to wait for another post.


In completely unrelated news, SOMEONE IS PLAYIN' GAMES WITH MY HEART AGAIN. Not cool, Minekura. Not cool at all. ;o;
