My main concept is to find the style that works best for your body type and fits your personality best and to stick with it. Not to the point that clothing is in a time warp- but that the overall shape and fit of clothes bought work right.
After a certain point, we all come to an understanding that certain styles are not flattering. For me, anything with an empire waistline- no matter how "in" it is- is just going to make me look dumpy.
I stick to silhouettes that accentuate my curves better- although I'm big-dresses or separates that show off the proportion between chest waist hips work far better than something covering my waistline up.
When you are no longer buying for every style that comes down the pike, it becomes crystal clear as to what to buy- and when the styles that are being sold don't match your ideals, it might make shopping not as easy for awhile. But you aren't throwing away money on clothes predestined to sit in the closet never being worn.
I have never had much success in shopping at second stores being the plus size I am- however- I can often find good things at discount sellers (LabelShopper is where I have found some of my best deals).
