Last night, I didn't watch the RNC speeches. I played Warhammer with my crew at work - cause Wednesday nights are for kicking back and being a dork with my friends instead of, you know, subjecting myself to a media event that's just going to make me want to hit my head against something hard.
However, after the game was over and I went back to my office to drop all the stuff off, I scrolled backwards through my Twitter feed to see how all the folks I follow - a great many of whom apparently decided they were going to see what was up in St. Paul - had enjoyed their evening.
It was quite something. All my friends started in a state of tremendous agitation of one sort or another, trying to go to bed filled with anger, with sadness, with fear. But slowly, progressively, they got it out of their system, unwinding by bits, returning to a calm state where they were about to tune into the convention - a bit trepidatious, certainly, but somewhat intrigued and interested.
Along the way backwards, of course, I saw folks say something here or there, that made me - knowing already what they did not at the time - think oh, man, is your blood pressure ever going to shoot through the roof in about twenty minutes. But on the whole, I am glad that I experienced the convention through the filter of reverse delayed-time, instead of in forward real-time.
I think I'd like to just jump to the second week of November right now, after all the votes have been begged, borrowed, or stolen however they shall, and then start working my way backwards to yesterday. Regardless of how the election turns out, I think it would be the preferable way to experience it.
