The Scandium in the story is in the aquamarine. Scandium is used for very little, but it is believed to be impurity that causes the blue coloration in aquamarine.

I pretend to sleep while you move around my bedroom, nude save for the blush of a bruise staining your collarbone. It's not yet dawn and if it weren't for the lamp we forgot to turn off, I wouldn't have seen the tears distilling the steel blue of your eyes to a sparkling aquamarine.

Slowly, you recover. Underwear. Slacks. Bra. Tears wiped away.

You bend down to pick up your shirt, but seeing the blood stains, you stand back up and move to my closet, opening the doors, reaching for the back, pulling out a blue blouse that I never wear.

You fasten the last button my blouse and I catch the gray in your eyes as you dare a glance at my sleeping form. I slam my eyes shut and hear the door close.
