I know, I know... my otherhalf gave it a low review. hrmf.
Don't let him fool you.
We paid a pittance to get in with our cupons, but honestly, I would not have felt bad reccomending this movie at the highest 'evening show' prices.
It had mirrors, oh yes... and SCARY art-deco eye-candy, and it had ghosts and scary-ass nuns, and they blew some shit up... plus, it actually had a PLOT! (grins wickedly)
The end was a GOOD twist, not a shocking one, and not a stupid one- it didn't try to fool us, but it took us along on the journey of the movie itself... you can't help but laugh a little at the ending in a kind of 'muhahaha' way, because you can see SO many possibilities from there- and yet, there is no pretense of a sequel or stuff- just a lovely tying up of loose ends and an opening for THOUGHT.
I really really liked it- and it had some AWESOME scare-moments.
Most of the gore was very low key with one noteable exception, and they give you LOTS of warning when that one is about to get gross- if you're shy of gore, just use common sense- if gore is starting to happen, close yer eyes for a sec- let it reach it's climax, and then it's done. :) They don't drag out the gore as the scare method, with the exception of the one scene. They focus instead on the horror that IS human suffering- or rather, our FEAR of it.
Damn good movie- I would give it a four stars out of five, personally. It didn't quite reach the pinnicle that "The Others" or "Sixth Sense" did, IMHO, but it did brush shoulders with them in many ways. Definately an awesome movie if you like to be scared while having to figure out a puzzle too.
Go see it! |
