I'm taking a break from studying. Extension 1 Maths can go to hell. Stupid subject.

10 Songs: August 2008 Favourites (Yes, I'm aware it's September)

Dir En Grey, 予感 (Yokan) [Premonition] (Gauze, 1999)
I like this song because: Despite being super repetitive, I can't stop listening to it. Admittedly, the singer's (Kyo) voice is not to everyone's liking, but I can't deny that it adds insane emotion to the song.
This song makes me feel: Happy because it's catchy, even though it's not necessarily a happy kind of song. But it gets under my skin.
Download (6.85mb)
大塚 愛 (Otsuka Ai), 大好きだよ。(Daisuki da yo) [I love you] (LOVE JAM, 2004)
I like this song because: I'm a hopeless romantic with a thing for ballads. And it is SO FUN to sing really loudly and off key because it's about LOVE and no one cares how crap you are when they love you.
This song makes me feel: Optimistic about love. Come on, it's a LOVE SONG.
Download (8.6mb)
大塚 愛 (Otsuka Ai), 恋愛写真 (Ren'ai Shashin) [Romance Photograph] (Love PiEce, 2006)
I like this song because: I heard it after crying my head off for half an hour during the end of ただ,君を愛してる (Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru) [English Title: Heavenly Forest]. So I was like "AHHHHH HAVE TO FIND THIS SONG" and it breaks my heart every time.
This song makes me feel: Sad, because the movie was dlkfjgalkjsdhf heartbreaking (but I cry over everything so don't trust my judgement on that one). But it does have a very uplifting feel to it, kind of like a "LOVE IS SO AMAZING, WE'RE TOGETHER, IT'S ALL GOOD" kind of mood.
Download (11.45mb)
Bonnie Pink, A Perfect Sky (Philharmonic Flava) (Thinking Out Loud, 2007)
I like this song because: It starts out really nice and quietly (but smoothly) with strings and then OMG AMAZING. I love the moment all the other instruments kick in, it just builds up the intensity and then it's so worth it.
This song makes me feel: "OMG I LOVE LIFE."
Download (6.24mb)
Amanda Palmer, Astronaut (A Short History of Nothing) (Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, 2008)
I like this song because: It is a very, very strong song for me - Sort of mellow but it really fits in with the way I feel in general at the moment. But it's still a good song even if you're not confused out of your mind.
This song makes me feel: A little depressed, but always in awe of Amanda's amazing songwriting skills.
Download (9.25mb)
二宮和也 (Ninomiya Kazunari), Gimmick Game (Dream"A"Live, 2008)
I like this song because: It fits my awesome song requirements of being a) catchy b) have good lyrics c) have an amazing melody/rhythm/something different about it that I haven't heard that I'm not even going to try and explain. It's probably something to do with the bad ass female character that this GUY is singing as. And to be honest, it's not every day that I find originality spilling out of a member of a boy band. As an added bonus, Nino wrote, composed and arranged it. Real musical talent is a little hard to find in JE, but Nino has it.
This song makes me feel: Like I could kick a cheating guy's ass.
Download (4.96mb)
Caroline, Winter (Murmurs, 2006)
I like this song because: It's sweet, soft and slow. Caroline's voice has an endearing childlike quality that when combined with her no-frills accompaniment is mindblowing in its serenity.
This song makes me feel: At peace.
Download (10.98mb)
Chara, 甘い辛い (Amai Tsurai) [Sweet, Bitter] (Honey, 2008)
I like this song because: Chara's voice is one of a kind and this is a really good showcase song of all she can do. It has a really laid back feel as well, it just sort of washes over me.
This song makes me feel: Different.
Download (7.0mb)
Ben Folds (featuring Regina Spektor), You Don't Know Me (Way to Normal, 2008)
I like this song because: After all the Ben Folds (Five) I've listened to, I have NEVER heard such a jumpy, poppy, bright or cute song from him. And it appeals greatly. Plus, Regina Spektor adds a really nice touch to it. Possibly a little over produced, like the "Aaaaaaah. Aaaaaaah." in the middle of the song is a little OTT, but I can get over it and focus on how the song is lovely as a whole.
This song makes me feel: Happy.
Download (4.34mb)
Ikimonogakari, SAKURA (桜咲く街物語 (Sakura Saku Machi Monogatari) [The Story of a Town where Cherry Blossoms Bloom], 2007)
I like this song because: The vocalist hits all the right notes, and sounds effortless while doing so. There's a part in the middle where there's no accompaniment, and then it all builds up again and comes back in full force. With a slide down the piano. Good stuff.
This song makes me feel: Wistful while anticipating something fantastic.
Download (8.11mb)

As always, songs are for sampling purposes... Whatever you do with them after 24 hours is up to you. If you like artists, consider buying their CDs and singles. Everything sounds better on a CD player anyway. For example: (!!!) I bought Caroline's Murmurs and it sounds so much better coming from my CD player than my computer anyway.

Let me know what you like and don't like? :D
