Written for ncisdrabble100 challenge no 70 - 'Escape'
Synopsis - Ever wondered why Tony loves movies so much?
The Great Escape
Tony has loved movies for as long as he can remember. When everything was all going wrong in the DiNozzo household, he could slip away into town and go see a movie. Most of the staff knew, to such an extent that they colluded with the young boy to make sure that he was out of range when the screaming and the breaking of whiskey glasses against walls began in earnest.
Films have always been there for Tony; they let him escape. It has always been difficult for him to explain to others, this *need* for escapism that cinema offers him. Some of the women he dated in the past liked cinema well enough; others couldn’t understand his ‘obsession’.
Jeanne didn‘t count; it had been all smoke and mirrors and he had been someone else. Anyway, as Bond would say, the job was done and the 'bitch' was gone.
Throughout everything that happened to him, movies were always there for Tony and he loved them for it. Admittedly in recent times, movies have had ‘competition’ for Tony’s affections. But given the ‘competition’ wouldn’t ever see Tony as anything but a damn good agent, the whole matter was moot. Tony liked melodramas as much as the next guy, he just didn’t like living in one.
A couple of weeks ago, ‘something’ happened. Tony saved someone, two people actually and in return… one of them saved him. They gave him the one thing that he’d been craving and then some. He hasn’t a clue why *now* but despite what some might say, Tony is smart enough not to question it.
Tony still looks to movies for escapism. In his job, it’s a necessity, but now he also has someone to escape *with*. It’s not perfect, but it will do.
