I ran some artsy errands yesterday to get some new acrylics and canvases and 'this's and 'that's... ahh the smell of paint in the morning, and then took the camera along for a drive north to Sugarloaf Mountain. Sugarloaf is a favorite spot and in the Fall it is magical. As I wound up the mountain I opened the sunroof and the windows (and turned the heat up) and listened to the birds and the wind in the tree canopy. This is a place of memory for me. In my first year of being here I do not now remember much. There was trauma and loss and a lot of pain to which my mind just shut down, but I do remember my first full Fall here very well, and sitting up on top of that mounatin when my cell phone rang and an always friend called to see how I was doing. That day I also collected beautiful Fall leaves for my son... to send to him in Florida. I have been back to Sugarloaf since..... usually in the Fall, once capturing that photo you recently saw of the tree with golden leaves several posts down. It was quiet on the mountain yesterday and I saw a wonderful paper wasps nest, and when I went to the old civil war lookout on top of the mountain a bird chirped at me and flew twittering happily out of the old stone doorway. We surprised each other but each managed a greeting. He sat then and watched me from a stone with sparkling black eyes. What a beautiful day. Yesterday the sky was gray and the wind was chilly, and it was good to find some solitude there for a bit to quiet my busy mind. I have uploaded about fifty pictures so far, with some more to come yet, and looking at them last night reminded me that I am so lucky to be here to see these seasons.
