Have you ever had one of those days? Of course you have, we’ve all had em and now I’m having mine. When I got home from work last night I noticed the street was very wet in front of our house. We’ve had sewer problems from time to time. It generally means calling the city an having them come out and clearing the sewer lines because it seems our end of nthe line has a slight rise to it just before it meets one of the main lines at the intersection near our house. In the past when we’ve had problems it means that it backs up into our house. The worst it ever was backed up into our downstairs tub and caused mild flooding in the basement. The City of Danbury paid for the cleanup and they’re responsible for the repairs and, while it was a serious pain in the ass (especially the smell) it was only a temporary inconvenience and really didn’t cost us anything. We even got the downstairs bathroom rugs replaced. Today? A different story! It seems that the water line has a break in it and has been leaking water under the street for quite a while. We just discovered that the street in front of our house is settling due to the leakage. A man from the Water Dept. came by this morning and told us that if the problem was on the Danbury end, they’d be responsible for fixing the problem. If it’s on our side of the property line then we’re responsible for it. So they did tests, poking probing and sounding our lawn. As of now there’s a 50/50 chance that the problem might be on our neighbor’s end. I’m voting for him to win this particular election. I simply can’t afford to replace those lines right now but don’t have any choice if the problem is mine.
Meanwhile I'm out the door on my way to my afternoon classes. Stay tuned. Film at 11:00 |
