Well, I think they're interesting subjects. But that may well just be me.
I'm way excited about Halloween tomorrow. I'm hosting a big Halloween party that should run into the wee hours of the morning. Great times! I'm dressing as Arwen. I'll post pictures.
I have pictures from a baking party last weekend as well. That's right. I spend my Saturday nights going to baking parties. We made a llama cake (which is, essentially, a cake with a llama drawn on top. Also "Congrats! It's a Llama!" written in blue frosting) and chocolate butterflies, and then we watched Serenity. It was basically one of the most awesome weekends I've had in awhile. I also showed some of my friends Moulin Rouge, which was crazy fun. If you haven't seen the movie, you should. It's insane and makes you feel like you're on drugs, and you'll either love it or despise it, but it's worth seeing whatever you end up feeling about it.
Life is not quite as insane now that midterms are over. I'm feeling the major urge to write, and have been working and re-working Incorporeal Form. I'll probably be posting some of it soon for your reading pleasure. If you have time. I know everybody's busy right now. :D
I've also made a vow to read as many books from the library I work at as possible. I read one last night that was excellent - The Burying Field by Kenneth Abel. It's a murder mystery of sorts, but that's far too shallow a way to describe it. It's about politics in Louisiana and how racism is still extremely prevalent in certain areas of the South (probably in areas everywhere, really - rumor has it there's a Klan that meets in one of the towns that feeds into my city's public schools. SCARY.) I read it straight through and enjoyed most of it - except that I felt like the author unveiled one of the best and most secret parts of his plot far too soon. It was one of those moments that should have been revealed with a dramatic sweeping off of a metaphorical curtain right towards the end of the book - but instead it was right smack in the middle. It worked the way it was written, but it wasn't as twisting and exciting as it could have been. But then, I suppose, that wasn't the point of the book.
Now on to my next read - Compulsion by Keith Ablow. It sounds like a dark psychological thriller type murder mystery. I swear I'm not intentionally focusing on mysteries; they're just coming in alphabetical order by author this way.
Why is it that when you really, really want a boyfriend, all these completely random guys start looking extra attractive? And, in a desperate attempt to get their interest, you in turn start acting like a complete moron?
There's a guy who likes to come visit the library who I think is younger than me - though I'm not really sure. He's pretty cute, and we've talked on the usual 'I'm the librarian helping you find a book and making conversation while doing so' level. He strikes me as being pretty smart, and very interested in books, but first impressions are, of course, often heinously wrong.
Anyways. The point of all that being that he came into the library today, and I promptly freaked out in my head about whether I looked good enough to attract his attention. Then I kicked myself mentally and told my stupid boyfriend-wanting prep side to shut the hell up and let things happen as they would. I kept waiting for him to come up to check out books, but I was busy getting a patron a new card when he finally got up to the front desk and so someone else took care of him.
But he said good-bye to me!
*headdesk* I'm a total moron.
