So, my roomate and I were going over to her house to feed her dog, and her mom told us there was an owl under their neighbor's van! They had hit it with their van, and it got caught up under it somehow. They had called the veteranarian and the park ranger, but neither one whould come to pick it up or even bother to come out and examine it. They suggested that we let nature "take it's course", which would mean letting it starve to death or get a feaver...of course, we couldn't let that happen...
The poor little thing had an injured wing and leg. We felt really bad for it and wanted to help. Then we remembered the Royal Gauntlet Educational Birds of Prey and Rehabilitiation Center in Coweta, OK. They're a really cool organization that have done a few demonstrations at our school and public Library, and always do the falconry show at the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival each year. We emailed them and a few hours later Bob Aanonsen (the founder) called us and said he'd do everything he could to help that owl. Less then 24 hours later a man showed up with a long leather glove and a pet carrier and picked up the little owl. He told us it was a small Great Horned Owl. It really amazes me how some people will go out of their way to help, they're really amazing people. I hope that owl can fully recuperate under their care, I have a feeling it will.
I feel like I made a difference! :)
Also, I got some more financial aid for college from Visual Services. Yay! every little bit counts. Then I got to see my mom (we go to the same college. cute, eh?) I gave her a BIG hug and we got to talk for a while, it was nice.
Then my fillm class went over L.A. Confidential in my Intro To Film class today, I love that movie. It's such a cool mix of grit and glamour. I'm really into that whole film noir...plus James Cromwell as Captain Dudley Smith is dreamy...*sighs* er, uh, but EVIL! lol.
We're still getting all that rain. 4 to 5 inches have fallen already. yikes! some of the roads around here are flooded, I hope everyone is super careful! It's a good time to stay inside and watch mass amounts of TV, me and my roomate rented Hedwig and the Angry Inch and House season 3. Odd combo, huh? I'm more excited about House, honestly. Since I've moved into the dorm, television has been a rare luxary. Plus I don't have any classes tomorrow, so I think I'll stay up and watch 'em. I'll take Hugh Laurie over sleep any day! It's not that I don't like sleep, don't get me wrong, I love it! My sleep pattern has just been really out of whack lately. I find that I'm more creative and energized at night, I blame the coffee...aw well
