_________

Wilson hesitated for a second in the doorway, when he notices House waiting in his office. The diagnostician was staring out the window, his mood obviously as gloomy as the weather outside. Wilson just sighed quietly and sat behind his desk, ignoring the other man in favor of paper work.

"Is your hidden inner sadist more powerful that I ever gave him credit for?" asked House finally, turning his gaze at the younger man.

            "I... don't know?"

"You knew what happened! And you what, went to suddenly ask her for a date? Confess your undying crush? What's that? Some sick idea to hurt me, 'cause I look so cute, when I suffer? Were you spending too much time with Cameron again?"

House stopped himself and just glared angrily at Wilson. He knew his anger is obvious. Anger and hurt, because not only was he rapidly raising his voice, he was also shooting remarks in all directions. Aiming at as many possible weak spots as possible, because he didn't know where he *should* aim. Because he was lost.

"House, you know Cuddy for a long time... Longer than I do!"

"And what does that change? It changes nothing! You know her long enough to know how you feel! You always state your so great with feeling, so I didn't you share your warm-fuzzy feelings with her before?!"

            "I just never..."

House angrily slammed the cane down at Wilson's desk, silencing him.

"You just never did, because it's not about her! It never was! It's about me..."

"Oh, yes, I forgot. It's always about you," mocked Wilson. "Did you consider that maybe I actually feel something for her? And yes, maybe I decided to speak up just now that I thought she may actually be unreasonable enough to end up with you, but it's only normal and..."

            "I know her longer."

Even if it didn't sound like a claim from eight year old to House at first, Wilson's eye rolling made obvious what he thought about it.

"Then you should learn to take what you want when you have an opportunity and not wait until it's too late."

House cursed, his gaze wandering back to the window, but he made himself stare right at the other man. No signs of giving up were in order now.

"So what? That's the lesson? Take what you can before it's too late? Slightly cruel, even for your inner sadist, but all right. I got it. Now leave her alone."

He stared at the gray and rainy world outside the window, his gaze wandered after all. It just wasn't natural to fight like that for something... For something that he shouldn't be fighting, because it should've been his... He finally noticed Wilson's silence. He looked back and stilled, unpleasantly surprised.

Wilson's voice was calm, but firm.

"No," he smiled and House never thought to prepare the answer to that.
