So I got a call out of the blue from one of the Editors with the company that laid me off a few months back. Wanted to know if I was available to do some work for them on a freelance contract basis. I have to admit, my initial reaction was to tell her no thanks, but that was nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction. The really weird part (to me) was that she offered me substantially more money than when I was there full-time. /shrug/ Okay, sure. I figure at least it's some money coming in for a while.
Stuff in FFXI has been.... Yeah. Idk. Not going badly per se, but I'm feeling a distinct lack of progress lately. There's been far less people on the shell than we've normally had in quite some time, and that means exactly that: Less to go around. People are still coming to me and asking "what's the possibility of getting [event] done?" Speaking honestly, that's always been one of my pet peeves because the answer is always the same: You'll get out what you put in. If you want to mention something in passing, a single time, and not make the effort to figure out a time that works for most people, to get it posted on the forms and calendar, and to talk to people about it...Then yeah, you will probably find that hardly anyone shows up.
I'm not one to try and force people to show for an event. The idea that I would tell someone "You have to be present for this thing in this online game we're both playing" is preposterous. The linkshell will never be run that way and yes, we have lost some people because of that in the past. It does sadden me that we're at the point now where we can't get some things done that people want, but I'm not going to resort to trying to strong-arm people to get things done.
Dynamis is in a holding pattern, for the time being. What I very much do not want is to develop a reputation of being someone who shell-hops, so I'm holding out with this current group --despite some dissatisfaction with their tactics, or lack thereof-- hoping that I'll be able to start sponsoring in the next month or so. I've been saving up here and there as I could, and so have gone back to trying to buy a few currency from bazaars when I find them. Current total: O. Bronze 1,756/6,000
