Yesterday me and Small Hannah, against our will, ran a tombola at my old primary school, the PTFA of which my mother is the head. I know that was a really badly-constructed sentence, but it can't be helped. I dressed as the Dutch Embassy. Hannah dressed as Germany. A typical conversation from the tombola stall: Stupid Person (SP): Can I buy this? Me/Hannah: No, this is a tombola. SP: Oh. So what do I have to do? M/H: You buy a ticket, look at the poster to see if it's won, and if it has, you get a prize. SP: Oh. How much is it then? M/H: 25p. (*SP gets out money, buys a ticket, sees that it doesn't win*) M/H: Sorry, you haven't won this time. SP: What, so I don't get ANYTHING? Well, this is rigged. The winning prize numbers are all weird anyway! Why are they all numbers ending in 25 or 45? Why not just all the numbers ending in 0? M/H: *blink* *sigh* Would you like a sweet as a consolation prize? SP: Yes.
That exchange, or something like it, happened about 20 times. I lost a little bit of my faith in humanity each time. I do stupid things a lot, but I like to think it's not sustained stupidity on this level. Or at least that I realise my stupidity.
