Duck and Geoffrey had been so good to her that Charlie could hardly bear it, not with everything she'd done. She'd left Ianto's house and she'd been hiding from Hiro, and her Daddy had raised her to be braver than that. He'd raised her to be better than that, too.

Which was why, two days after he came to the island, Charlie Andrews went looking for the man who'd been her wish.

As she walked across the clearing towards her little house, all that she could think is that she hadn't swept the floor before she'd left him there. She had changed the sheets, though. The cranes hanging from the eaves were turning slowly, catching the light.

She stopped at the bottom of the steps and smoothed her dress, and then walked up to the front door and tapped the frame with her knuckles.

"Anybody home?"
