Friday arrived at the hotel and set up the Capclave table. Not much happened since it was early and not many people arrived yet. Spoke to the Costume Con 27 people and they gave me a flyer for the Single pattern challenge. They pick one pattern and you make a costume using that pattern. Will have to buy the pattern soon and sketch out some ideas. Friday night was the Brave New Worldcon party, it went pretty good. Didn't have as many people as last year, but managed to catch up with some people. Many new people rolled to determine their place and had a decent amount to drink.
Saturday I turned in the forms to participate in the Masquerade. Was a bit nervous, but the staff were very understanding. Spoke with the tech person about the tech instructions. Having so many options was confusing. Signed up for a rehearsal spot, and the tech suggested arriving early so I could see how it goes with others. I did the rehearsal and my CD worked, I was less nervous at that point. Wandered around for a bit and dropped off my stuff in the room. Cartman coctails was starting so I said hi and went to the green room.
In the green room I went over what to emphasize in the workmanship judging with my "den mom", Steve, and learned what will happen. redneckotaku was also a den mom so I chatted with him a bit. Was called in for workmanship judging and I pointed out the french seams on the sleeves and my earrings. they complemented me on the color choice on my dress (pink with a dark red lining on the sleeves).
Was #13 of 32 entries so I was on stage fairly early. Being on stage wasn't as scary as I thought, but I rushed it since I was nervous. I received an Honorable Mention in workmanship the beadwork on my collar. Didn't think I would get anything so it was a pleasant surprise. Went to the Peggy Rae's house party and chatted with the others. Glad there was some food and cake available. Had some interesting conversations and finally closed down at 4:20am.
Sunday we checked out and I went to a panel on performing and altering patterns. The second I walked off stage I thought of 10 things I could do better, after the panel I thought of another 10 things. Wandered around a bit and took notes on some things in the con suite. Bought my membership for next year, Steve was working the registration line it wasn't busy so I bounced some ideas about next year's Masquerade. We sold a few memberships, but more people wanted to buy the ducks or the dodo puppets. We left after 11:30 and got back around 1am.
Went home on Monday morning and cast resin gems for a world con costume. Didn't use enough dye or hardener. They came out pink and tacky to the touch. Pried them out of the mold and am waiting for a warm not humid day so I can try again.
