We are back safe and sound from our 9-day vacation in Georgia, hooray hooray. We flew down for righteousson's wedding, but Phil had enough built-up vacation time that we were able to make a real vacation of it. There are many pictures. There will be more detailed travelogues later. For now, these are the things I learned about the Atlanta region.
The most popular phrase is, "C'mawn!"
The trees are tall and gorgeous and fighting a losing battle against kudzu.
Traffic is insanely congested. Rush hour starts around 2:30 and goes until 8 PM. Everybody goes 20-30 miles over the posted speed limit. No joke. Oh, and they don't use their directional signals.
/>The fire hydrants are blue and silver instead of red.
It is a heathen land of NO BUTTER. No restaurant will offer you butter--only some sort of margarine spread. I missed butter greatly.
And now we are home. We're pretty happy with the things we saw and did during our vacation, though we failed to eat grits. Tomorrow it's back to work. Nameless is being a bit stand-offish to show her irritation at us for vanishing, but Foundling is being super-extra-affectionate and demanding. |
