Am now officially social and publicity officer for Clarinet Choir (AGM today). My friend Sandra, from my halls, is stock officer.
Currently sat here with ashes on my forehead from the Ash Wednesday mass down at the Catholic Chaplaincy. I didn't go to the main uni one because I was busy, plus my other reasons are relating to what I've been posting about here.
It was a candlelit mass, which was really nice...except when people were reading! 'Twas a little dark until a candle was held right up to the text.
Fr Paul can be a little...wacky, I think would be an accurate description!!! There was a rubbish bin in the middle of the chapel when we got there (though once georgia_pumpkin had explained to me about last year's Ash Wednesday mass, I could see what was coming) and we were all given a piece of paper. The idea was that we wrote down things about ourselves that we wanted to change, sins we wanted to get rid of, that kind of thing. Then we shredded them. Fr Paul said that if the shredder made a particularly long and loud noise it must be a pretty big sin...three guesses whose made the longest, loudest noise...!!! *giggles* 'Twasn't any of the students'...!!! Then he burned them (it took 3 matches; afterwards, at TolkSoc, someone - I think it was Tony - suggested the coincidental significance of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Thus it took all three of the Trinity to burn the sins! I'll mention that to Fr Paul at RCIA tomorrow. The lid had to be put on the bin, though, to avoid setting off the fire alarm and sprinkler system (Fr Paul said something about not wanting to baptise us all from the sprinkler system)!!! I did like that, though. It's a really good idea, though, with Lent being a time of repentance and reflection and so on.
