So, today I went to get my World of Greek Rituals essay about the role of men in female initiatory rituals back from Dr Petrovic (the David Tennant look-alike with a puppy). I got 70%, which is a First. Comments on the front: "This is an excellent, well-written and argued essay, offering a wide spectrum of fabulous and interesting observations". And, in the essay, where I had written "Flippantly put, the main role of men in female initiations is to possess and provide penises", he had drawn a smiley face. A honest-to-gods Smiley. Face! He also said he was delighted with my work last and this term (I always ask and answer questions in the lectures)
Then I asked if he would be an academic reference for my MA application, and he said he would be delighted. I then told him that I wanted to focus on Greek religion (his area), and on the role of blood in religion (something that hasn't really been written about), and he said that I had made his day :) He's also offered to be my supervisor next year, and to help me with individual Greek tuition if I need it, and said, pointedly, that what I want to study is also very suited to PhD study... So we're meeting in a few weeks for "tea and a long talk".
