About a year ago, Stardust was compared to The Princess Bride in many reviews. When I saw it back then, I didn't think it should be called, "The Princess Bride of this generation." I was just starting with my TPB obsession that summer, so naturally these reviews drew me into the theater to see this film. This might have caused a slight disappointment in the film, but overall, it was good. I enjoyed it. But now, a year later, I had completely forgotten about this film. Right smack in the middle of summer, I suddenly remembered it. The image of the evil witch led me to remembering. My heart leapt. "Oh my God, I completely forgot about this film!" I almost bought it in the store a few days ago, but I bought Amelie instead (and who wouldn't?). However, I am going to rent it out from the library as soon as possible.

Speaking of Amelie, I rented that movie from the library a very long time ago. Only this week have I finally bought it on DVD. This has to be one of the greatest films ever made. It's certainly one of my favorites. The combination of magical editing, colors (green/red motif), the French language, the absurd yet wonderful characters, the imagination, and just the overall creativeness of it makes it so appealing. One of my favorite things to look for in a film is individuality. You might think a movie is creative, but when you watch something like this, it blows your mind. Most of my favorite films have something creative about them.

1. Amelie- fast-paced editing, Amelie's imagination, color motif
2. The Princess Bride- sarcastic, satiric, yet lovable fairytale humor
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- reverse storytelling

My favorite scene in Amelie- if I can even pick one- is when she's sleeping and the pictures of her wall and her pig lamp talk to each other. Right there is a piece of the magic of Amelie's character. While I watched the movie two days ago, I thought about this question:

If you could trade lives with anyone, fictional or real, who would you switch with?

I would switch with Amelie.
