Fallen by Lauren Kate

...out more. The Verdict: Teens looking for the next paranormal romance could do worse than this novel (not least because the characters are no different to those typically found in this genre). However, the refusal to explain critical parts of the backstory is frustrating and raises the question as to whether there is enough there to sustain the series. Cross-posted to yalitlovers .

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

... that gives the characters a story beyond their feelings for one and other. I look forward to reading the sequel. The Verdict: It’s refreshing to read a teen romance that gives the characters more to do than stare moodily into each others eyes and while I think that there was a little too much plot within this novel, it was still an entertaining read. Changeling: Dark Moon by Steve Feasey

... an intriguing premise for the next in this fun series, but which also makes for a frustrated wait for loyal fans. The Verdict: This is a fast-paced, fun YA series with chilling horror and a central character who is becoming steadily well-rounded and interesting. I look forward to reading the next in this series. Parasite Positive by Scott Westerfeld

... to the threat that Cal is facing. The Verdict: It's entertaining enough and the take on vampirisim is an original one and the scientific interludes are fascinating, but the flaws in this novel (notably the failure to show any infected character unable to control their actions) prevent this from being a great book.
