Weird VLC problem

It now crashes after a few seconds of playing video files (DVD rips). It played those same files just fine previously. Any idea what happened -- the problem is new, started a couple of weeks ago. (Windows XP64)

Please recommend a video editor for XP64

I need to do very basic editing of video files from 5Dmk2. My old Adobe Premier 2.0 won't open it and it's on my old PC anyway. Do any free or very inexpensive video editors allow opening and editing 5D2 video files on XP64?

Calling all PC experts -- again.

Here's the situation: I have a Windows XP64 computer with two 2TB Western Digital external drives. USB interface works fine, just very slowly. Firewire works fine, just slowly. eSATA works slowly ONLY on my new PC and keeps disconnecting.
