Death in the family = curling up with a bottle of wine and Leaves of Grass

OF him I love day and night I dream'd I heard he was dead, And I dream'd I went where they had buried him I love, but he          was not in that place, And I dream'd I wander'd searching among burial-places to find          him, And I found that every place was a burial-place; The houses full of life were equally full of death, (this house is          now,) The streets, the shipping, the ...

Thanks again Walt

I shall venerate hours and days and think them immeasureable hereafter; I am finding how much I can pass through in a few minutes. I was a good friend to all things before, But now what I was seems to me limpsey and little.

Ok, too fucking far, Levi's

I just saw another Whitman-based Levi's commercial where they ACTUALly use WALT WHITMAN'S ACTUAL VOICE (or a recording that is at least thought to be Whitman—and given that this is the theory under which they're operating, whether or not this is the actual historical Whitman's voice becomes a bit of a moot point). The other commercial, where an actor was reading "Pioneers! O, Pioneers!" ...

I'm really not sure how I feel about this

( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAXpJSvW5mA for those seeing this imported on Facebook) I saw this commercial tonight and did a double-take. If you don't recognize the narration, it's a part of Walt Whitman's "Pioneers! O Pioneers!" , and not even a very interesting part of the poem. I'm of two minds about this. Like, if this exposes more people to America's greatest poet, that's a good ...

Examples of Collaborative Digital Arts Projects

Noticing that humanities bookman rarely jointly writer articles, as I liquidated my last post , comes as no surprise. As Blaise Cronin indites, `` Collaborationfor which co-authorship is the most seeable and compelling indicatoris launched pattern in both the life and natural philosophy, reflecting the industrial scale, capital-intensiveness and complexness of much modern-day research project. ...

Epidemiology: always, ALWAYS

She said her heart was going a thousand miles an hour -- waiting for news that wasn't going to be good. She told me he was "always, ALWAYS" clean-shaven, but for the past few days, he just couldn't. And then she tried to pay me for a cup of coffee with "just a little cream". It reminded me of when the one time in all recorded history, my mom's bed was left unmade. * * * I love the rich ...

One more question...

Again from the last poll Who was president before Calvin Coolidge? Well, Wikipedia says Warren G. Harding , but as we all know wikipedia is full of LIES!!!!!!!!!! So I'm going with Walt Whitman , who the ineternet claims knows all the names of the forgotten gods . I figure Walt is as good as anyone to go before Coolidge.

poetry geekdom

Are any of you AWARE that there exists a recording of Walt Whitman reading his own work? http://www.whitmanarchive.org/multimedia/America.mp3 Dude...that is so crazy. So crazy. He doesn't really sound like how he sounds in my head. Here's to Walt...he made out with Oscar Wilde, probably! And that is truly what counts.

A Clear Midnight

A Clear Midnight This is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless, Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done, Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou lovest best, Night, sleep, death and the stars. - Walt Whitman - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it's been a while since I've posted poetry here. I went up to the ...
