Breakfast nook / DVD area help!

... chest is also dark - it does double duty as a coffee table, along with holding my sewing stuff - the carpet is a very neutral beigeish brown. I can't decide if my plan for apple-green walls will be pleasant or overwhelming. Also, what should I do with the windows? Pale curtains will let more morning light in, but will they be obnoxious when watching DVDs? I plan to replace the desk and the TV ...
