No time for a full on entry right now, but I just posted a 1/2 dozen pictures at Picasa from Yosemite, where taking good shots seems to be no more complicated than shooting fish in a barrel. (Speaking of which, has anyone ever actually done this? It seems like you'd put a hole in the barrel with your first shot, which would kind of defeat the purpose of the barrel in the first place. Or is that ...
Here's a picture I didn't take time to post while we were in SF. This tree is along the "Avenue of the Giants," a windingalternate to Hwy 101 outside of Eureka. The Redwoods are spectacular! (Follow the link on the picture for more shots on Flickr)
Merced River, Yosemite Valley Originally uploaded by Tarkeena Much less time for blogging lately - which is fine, since about 5 people are reading it anyway. :) Anyway, we made Fresno our base of operations for four days, and then Sacramento for two days after that. This put us in striking range of Kings Canyon and Yosemite, although very healthy drives to each. Kings Canyon we found...
Sadly, DEC's work has dictated that our vacation must be postponed. Thankfully, it's only by a couple of weeks: instead of leaving next Tuesday, we're taking off on the 24th, just before Memorial Day. (And just after we join the group for Prince Caspian on Friday the 23rd!) More interestingly, we've decided to ditch the airplanes and simply drive. The twist is instead of taking the long and ...
.... I'm wanting to be on the Roadalready! (even though I haven't done 1/2 of the tasks that need doing, and my back has been hurting which means driving will hurt more... but I don't care - vacation's siren call is loud!) We've got our lodging booked out through Sacramento, which means everything but the last few days. Our rough itinerary is Sat / Sun 5/24-25 : Bandon-by-the-Sea, OR Mon 5/...
Ten Things I learned about SF
1. SF has beautiful sunsets
2. 50's diners in SF are fun, but the prices seem to have gone up a bit
3. The Legion of Honor museum has tons (literally) of art that doesn't suck
4. See above
5. There's an iconicbridge in the bay...
6. The last boat that lands on Alcatraz leaves at 3:55 pm. :(...
No pictures today: don't have the time to dump the memory cards. We spent Tuesday traveling to and around Eureka, CA, with side trips to Ferndale, which is a really cute little Victorian dairy town a few miles off the beaten path. Lots of cute shops: I bought the niece a book and myself some felted wool fabric at a quilt shop. Still gray all day, but not too cold. We made it to SF yesterday ...
... I even weighed her, and don't think she's lost an ounce. I guess she must have gone on vacation, and then decided that 18 days was enough. Maybe she'd killed all the mice the neighborhood? We petted and...Not that it'll help. She's pure, stereotypical cat, that one. I expect this isn't the last vacation she'll take from us. I wonder if anyone makes a cat tracking device? Y'know, something to hang ...
Bandon Sea Stacks Originally uploaded by Tarkeena Day two of our vacation dawned gray and overcast, but calm. I couldn't get back to sleep after waking the last of many times around 6, so I took a walk onthe beach alone around 6:45. I wandered south to the nearest set of rocks and found a stream blocking my way, so I followed it as it curved back around north for a while, shot some ...
