The sweetness of the cornbread goes very nicely with the spiciness of the chili.

I put the cornbread in the bowl, scooped some of the chili on top of that, and topped it with cheese and sour cream.

Mmm, I made Chili con Carne today from Venison, but I overdid the cayenne pepper. You pretty much have to eat it with something else if you are at all sensitive to spiciness. It goes really well with peanut butter sandwiches actually. Unfortunately, I've got another 7 lbs to lose in just over a week, so I've already eaten too many peanut butter and chili sandwiches as it is today.

... and chilis, that we broiled and served with a sweet-spicy chili-vinegar sauce. so incredibly good--sweet and spicy and tender and sticky. very sticky. alas, it doesn't reheat well--it loses the spiciness and sweetness, and is just merely decent. still, definitely a repeat! we also had leftover potatoes (not really the "right" pair, but eh) and asparagus, which was really good with the spicy sauce...

Restaurant Review: El Veneno

.... The Habenero sauce, which the waiter endearingly described as 'hot as hell', was awesome. Crazy Fox: Regarding the Habenero sauce, at first it was only sweet, but then this slow motion explosion of spiciness took place. Memprime: After the waiter deposited a huge pitcher of water for me, the waitress delivered the oysters. It was perfect. Crazy Fox: It was salty like the sea, yummy as can be,...

Happy New Year, Las Vegas and Leaving San Francisco

... States, so it was definitely a different experience. It was also odd, in that we were the only non-Indians in that restaurant. The food was good and whereas the butter chicken in Japan is sweet with no spiciness at all, the butter chicken at this particular restaurant was spicy. I had to ask for a mango lassis to go with it, but the mango lassis was better than the ones in the Japan, in that it ...

Happy Maintenance Day!

Made some instant Palak Paneer I had gotten from a local Indian market with dinner tonight that was very good. It was marked "medium" in terms of spiciness, which was pretty funny since it was hotter than Venus. But still very enjoyable. I'd consider making it from "scratch" but there seems to be about 100 ingredients in it, 79 of which I do not have on hand. I've been doing pretty good about ...

We'll Reinvent Love [8/10]

... be constantly reminded of everything he no longer has. In a way he dreads the tour. Still, there are nights where he would swear he can smell Ryan, the vanilla of his deodorant or the clean spiciness of his shampoo, embedded deep in the fabric of his pillowcase. It’s ridiculous, of course. He’s washed his pillowcase at least five times since Ryan was last here. The scent is still there though, ...

Secret Santa Entry #5

... The blood-red scarves lay politely draped across the corner of the bed; the veil atop them. The sombrero straddled them all. When she kissed him, she tasted Mexican peppers on his breath; the spiciness of his skin; salsa in his sweat. As the lips tore themselves apart for a moment, she raised back her head, tossed her hair to the sky, and she looked at his eyes. In them ...
